  • Makers own cues

Hi all cue makers out there can you all be honest and tell us what your own playing cue is ie do all makers play with their own cues if so could you tell us the specs your own cue is and also if not what cue you play with

When a doctor is sick, do you think he will seek another doctor's advise or he can cure his own illness?

No matter how good you are, you will never be able to satisfy your own expectations.

I doubt they will use their own cue.

      Do you reckon?...

I would of thought the top cue makers would of used their own cues tbh...

They might have a few makes of cues in possesion at times (probably just to check the competition, or part of a collection like ...)...but somehow i doubt Mike wooldridge uses a parris when he plays, and vice versa...(other cue makers available)...

Not a very good advert for your work if your a supposed top cuemaker and your using a 'competitors' (so to speak) cue.

I might be wrong, but i know if i could make a top quality cue myself, hand select my own woods etc...why on earth would i pay 500-660+ for a cue when i could make it for a fraction of the cost and know exactly what/how i want it??..don't make sense to me that..

A few hobby makers that aint quite upto the standard of other makers maybe, but i just can't see the top cuemakers not using their own cue...

I'll be quite shocked if mike, trev, parris etc dont use 1 of their own cues for playing.

lets hear from some makers then!!!...:snooker:..

Yes I just had my cue repaired by keV and he said he used his own thinking about it I beleive they must all use thier own, as who else could provide better maybe I should have asked other than there own cue which cue would they use, it was mentioned trev has used the burrwat champion as a template for some of the cues he has made, but I suppose winning a game with your own cue has to be the ultimate

I'd throw this into the mix

Have they been playing longer than making? undoubtably yes

Therefore they may be in possesion of a cue that predates their builds and be very happy with it, or maybe an antique cue that they have found.

I cant imagine a competent cue maker using someone else's cue as his daily playing cue.

ADR, does Trevor use a very fancy cue or just a simple one?

                            Hi Guys,
What a good question, well im a cue maker "Wright Cues" and i use my own cue.http://www.wrightcues.co.uk/images/Wright%20cue.jpg
The cue is called "Wright cue" as you see on my website.
It is 58.75 inches in length, 30mm dia butt,18oz in weight and 9mm tip.
The cue is ash, ebony spliced with four, 3.5mm paduk veneers finished with four birds eye maple facings, and i love it, it feels like my right arm. Before this one, again one of my own 3/4 cue, plain ebony butt, same spec. Someone offered me to much money for me to refuse, so i sold it.
Before i started to make cues many years ago, i had a John Parris 3/4 "special cue", plain ebony butt, it had a 7.5mm tip 58" in length, 29mm dia butt, 17oz in weight.
Guys there are some great cue makers in this country, some are more expensive than others because they have more overheads than others. Shop around and get a good rapport with them, i know myself i like to have a good old chat with my customers and i break my back side to help them.
I hope i've answered the question. Happy cueing,:snooker:
