I'm new to the game, so my budget and expectations are both pretty low at this point. Right now I'm playing with a $30 Elite i bought from Pooldawg. The cues I was looking at have extensions and cases and run between $100 and $200 US shipped. Thanks.

from wat ive played with, these dark horse cues are much better than the other ebay chinese cues ive seen and played with. its better than the JX cues, and other similar offerings for that price. IMHO its worth the money for a beginner, but id still reccomend saving more, over a bit of time, and getting a cue that will last longer. is, mastercraft, cuecraft, etc.
ive played with 3 of these dark horse MYX cues, and ive bought 4 to 5 of them for friends as gifts, at around 130 aus, and they are a very decent hitting cue. the cue is straight, they are hand spliced, it does look nice, but the wood does damage easily. this is probably cause of the cheap wood they use. otherwise, good cue for beginner. havnt had any problems with mine or any of my mates thus so far

thanks for the information. i figure that if my snooker experience is anything like my 8 and 9-ball experience has been so far, then i'll probably own 20 or 30 snooker cues before it's all over with as i'm a bit of a tinkerer. so far i've heard consistently good things about master craft and craftsman cues. when i have a bit more money to spend i'm sure i'll have one of each at some point.

"Michael Adam, most the meaningful snooker cues is designed by this young and enthusiastic guy who loves adventure"
LOL wasnt it Mark Amazonarse or something before? Someone should tell him to drop the waffle, cause anyone with an iota of sense would simply laugh and click the back button.
Seems a shame to stick nice woods on a cue which hasn't been given the best shaft, probably cause a cnc machine has done the work. Not bad value really though

actually, ive monitored their stuff for the past 2 years, and theyve offered anything between 18 to 21 ounces, 57 to 62 inches, and 8mm to 10 mm. although it seems to come in waves from time to time. occasionally, they hav a 1 off design with different specs. dont always expect to get wat you paid for, in terms of specs either. i bought a 9.5 mm cue that was spose to weigh 20 ounces, but it ended up being 9mm and weighing 16.5. i think its because they hav no control over actual quality of woods they use. they just make sure it feels ok to hit balls with, and looks pretty enough to take photos of. some of them are painted, but only painted over wood to make it look like jet black ebony. none of their cues actually hav jet black ebony. all dark brown. some cues are very pretty, and play very good, despite being that cheap.
all in all, dont expect much, and you might b pleasantly surprised.
