why maple for american pool cues?

16 followed by fluffed red to middle... but thats good for me
thing is i can play for 2 hours now without wanting to wipe my cue,

that was the cheap james butters cue with lead tape added. my 16 was alright the second black was straight about an inch off the cushion, screwed back on and off the cushion for a red to middle... Perfect... Roll the red in dead weight leave the pink to the bottom pocket... But i missed the red...
