  • Ferrules types

Can anyone direct me as to where I might buy a composit type ferrule for my snooker cue. It must be a screw on type and be 9.5 mm. I play with side on most of my shots and often find myself saying the side didn't take. I now
know that it is not that the side didn't take, but there is too much squirt on the cue ball. I been reading up on it and these man man ferrules are supposed to better than brass in reducing the amount of throw.
Web address would be helpfull or even better if any one on the forum sells them, also has any one experimented with this and did you find any improvement? Can any one recommend a specific type?:snooker::snooker:

Parris may have some, seeing as though you are based in London it would pay you to phone him. Steve Davis had a cue for a couple of seasons with a composite ferrule fitted, it was a redish colour if I remember correctly. Don't know whether it would make too much difference to the throw of the cueball, at the end of the day that is more to do with the shaft than the ferrule, the difference from a ferrule would be very minute I should imagine, otherwise many pros would be using them.

Thanks freddie, I've PM'ed Slasher for a price.

Hi cueman, I would go to jp but I'm trying to keep the cost down, so will replace the ferrule myself.

Since were on the subject is there a difference between a stainless steel ferrule and a brass ferrule with the way they play.

You're most welcome mate. The ferrule Slasher using is very nice. PM me too, when you get the price. Would like to try something new too.

You sure about changing the ferrule yourself ? you need a lathe..

Soon as he gets back to me I let you know. As regards to the exsiting brass ferrule they say if you heat in up it will come off really easy as metal expands. I am going to try my soldering iron on it, ( this is a tip I've been given) as long as it comes of nicely, I can't see a problem putting the new one on:snooker:

I think the lightest ferrule you can get without going through too much trouble is the black fibre ferrule. It is very light and soft, but can get scratched very easily.
The brown ferrule you are interested seemed to be either linen or canvas phenolic. You can buy a rob and machine them yourself (if you have the tool). They also come in black.
You may want to check out the ferrule materials here:
                    http://www.cuestik.com/
On this site, the Titan is in my opinion the lightest but again, it is a bit soft. It is what Predator cue is putting on their cues.
The PVC is quite light as well, and a bit tougher.
This is a site for US pool cues, if you want these for snooker, you may need to buy the rod and machine them yourself, or get someone to do it for you locally. It is not that tough to do.
                    Hope this helps.

It's a very good site. I was hoping to get something ready made so I could just pop it on with as little fuss as possible. what tools would you need to prepare the rod, do you need a lathe and die set?:snooker:

Well, why dont you email them first to see if they can turn something down for you.
And you dont need a die because it is not a must that you thread the ferrule.
If you buy a tube, and the inner diameter is right, then all you need is really to cut it and trim it.
So, may be you can ask them to sell you a tube, with the right inner and outer diameter, so you can cut it and slip it on and trim it.
Of course with better tools you can do a better job, but you dont need very fancy equipment to do something like this.
