  • Making a final decision

    Hi again guys,

Thanks for all your advice over the past few days - I've done my research and have managed to try a couple of Peradon cues, which felt ok...

I am down to four cues: which out of these only would you buy?

    Peradon King
    Peradon Prince
Powerglide Vanquish (Particularly interested to know the reputation of powerglide - can't find much on them)
    Craftsman Dominator

I know about the peradons, so particular feedback on the last two would be greatly appreciated and I'll be on my merry way!

    Cheers,

    Oli

I think the best cue out of that list would be the Craftsman by a long way, looks nice on the website http://www.craftsmancues.com/acatalo...ssic_cues.html

Personally, I'd go for the Craftsman, however, I haven't actually tried any of the Peradon cues you listed.
I'm afraid its a biased opinion, but I really rate the quality of Craftsman cues. I recently bought one and the service was brilliant, really helpful and very quick to respond to any queries. The cue is really superb for the money, lovely feel and balance. You can't go wrong in my opinion.
Obviously, if you are willing to spend £30 more than the Dominator, then Mike Wooldridge is the Daddy and hands down I'd go for a Black Shark.

My son has a Craftsman Dominator and I have played a few frames with it also. I found (like most of the Craftsman range) it was very well made and certainly good value for the price. It is a heavy cue at 20oz but is beautifully forward weighted at 19" so does not feel strange in any way. The quality of the shaft is very good, the splices are all even and the butt has some lovely inlays as you can see on the website.
If you are in any way able to get to Leeds (well, just outside at Kippax) and visit the shop itself, you will benefit enormously....my wife says I'm like a kid in a sweet shop when I go!!
You'll be given sound advice and not put under any "sales pressure" by the guys there and there is the added advantage of being able to knock a few balls round on a full size table to try out any possible purchase.
Now I'm not knocking the more expensive cue makers out there, as it really is an art form (when done well), but in my humble opinion, unless money is no object or you are of a really exceptional standard then the type of cue that Craftsman will supply you with will be more than sufficient to enable you to enjoy our great yet bloody frustrating game for many years to come.

johnnymac - do you have any pictures of your son's cue? The website picture doesn't do it justice I don't think and they always look better in 'real life' photo's.

I would echo Gtjohnnymac1965's comments there.

I will try and get the pics on some time tonight Opoole if I can. His cue has just been oiled over the last couple of days so looks pretty good at the mo'.
I know what you mean about "catalogue" photos, but honestly you will get pretty much exactly what you see from the guys at Craftsman......and no I'm not on commision...ha ha! Just being honest....they give a great service at a fair price.
