JP Traditional with a small tip

Hi

I bought a used JP traditional yesterday,
But The tip seems to be small, I think it's 9mm or 8,5mm
so i wanted to ask what is the minimum size of the tip that I can play snooker with it, and have no problems

It all depends what size you,re used to . Tip size is a personal choice with the average size being around 9.5 mm . Many people play with 9 mm but i dont think you will see many people playing with 8.5 mm . That would be to small for the majority of players . A tip that small requires really accurate cueing .

You could but then the cue will probably be too short for you , so you would have to have it lengthened at the butt . I,m not sure how much it would cost you , pheraps on of the cuemakers hers may advise you with whats required and the approx cost .

The only way to tell is to get a set of calipers and see what length equates to 9.5 mm . You will know how much has to be cut off , and what length your left with then .

Spot on! It all equates to the taper. If the taper over the top 10 inches reduces dranatically then it may only need a little off. Whereas if its a flowing taper over the whole cue then it will require alot more.

even if you only take a bit off, and it becomes 9mm. you can probably cheat that a bit and hav a tip that is slightly bigger than the ferrule, or mushrooming a bit. making the surface area a touch bigger.

My Dad plays with an 8mm tip
I wouldn't advise it like but he knocks in bigger breaks than I do.
I've seen a few uk pool players snap small tips at ferrule playing snooker but 8.5 should be OK.
If cue is long may well be worth cutting down a little. Get somebody proper to do it though.

guy i know plays snooker with an 8mm talisman tip, good player too.
guess its personal preference
i personally wouldnt fancy trying to play a power shot with an 8mm tip tho, 9mm is small enough for me to generate all the spin ill ever need anyway
