Hi, i'm looking at buying a new cue but can't figure out whats the right one for me. I'm abit confused about all the specs that come with them, i'm familiar with hand spliced and machine spliced, but what about the types of wood ebony or rosewood, is it? I don't want to spend an arm and a leg on one(£70-£100 but i want to take it to the next level and get something decent that may improve my game. Any ideas?

Mastercraft do some good cues at about the 120 mark if u can stretch to that
Craftsman also do some good cues around that kind of price for their hand spliced.
I would say try out cues before you commit to one, if u cant get to these kinds of places, then try as many cues from your friends as you can, different weights, lengths, tip sizes etc and u should be able to get some idea of what you like best, then u will know what spec to get ur cue made toHighest Match Break - 77

Hi mate welcome to the forum .
The most important aspect of a cue is how it feels and plays for you and the only certain way to know if a cue is right for you is to go to a place where you can try a load out .
However if your not fortunate enogh to live near enough to do that then you just have to buy a cue that suit you , ie weight , tip size etc , and usually most people will have a preference of wodd for the shaft , eithe maple which is plain , or ash which has grain .
Do you know what specs you want , if not you should try to find what you feel comfortable with before buying .
For around £ 100-£130 you will get a decent cue .
Either new or second hand off ebay or from here as many members usually have cues for sale .
The most recommended in your price bracket are , craftsman , mastercraft , mastercue , omin , U T .
For the butt you can either go for plain ebony ao rosewood , as the more fancy the design the more it will cost .
Happy hunting , if you go to the cue section there are loads of posts about cues which should help you with your choice

You wont go far wrong with 10 mm if you cant try some out . the smaller the tip the more accyrate you cueing will have to be .

i have had a few of my mates who i have known for a long time join the snooker team over the past few years all of them not bad 25/35 break players basicly average club players and i have ordered them new cues and each time i have gone for a mastercue tournament st1/st2 from blue moon leisure for £69.99 and they have all been very happy with the cue i personaly like the st2 with the joint above the splices for the money they are a well made good starter cue plus they come with the base joint so you can buy the mini butt or tele extension as well which arnt to expensive themselves.
