  • How do you know if you need a new ferrule?

I've been looking up the past threads on ferrules, and I realized no one has ever talked/mentioned about knowing when to get a new ferrule.

Can someone shed some light on this topic for me please?

Common sense really. If your cue makes a funny sound like a tinny 'click' when striking it could be loose. Or and this happens because you polish the ferrile a lot (if you like it nice n bright) and use sand paper to gleam it up but if you do this often brass can loose its width, brass dulls hench why some use stainless steel ferrels.

Dont worry mate you will know, experience in this is not required . When a ferrel needs changing it has its own way of speaking it ....wait for this...normally takes a CHUNK !! of cue with it (ouch)...Seriously as mentioned by 1lawyer you will hear a tingy sound ...best to leave cue alone and take for repairs!! Happened to me twice, but now when playing i also keep an ear out for any unusual noises if any .:snooker:
I can see the table, but lost my ....ive lost my balls

Or if you use a file to smooth the top down when fitting a new tip (and get a bit heavy) the ferrule will look thinner one day!
