I used to hold my cue right at end but then I got a longer cue and it cocked me up for a bit. I kept defaulting to holding at end even thought cue was an inch longer and I didn't need to. Got used to it and actually another cue on from then now.
8.5 - 9.5 is probably best.
Less than 8 is probably daft. My mate with the 7mm tip broke his old cue at the ferrule 3 times.

Yes loopy, I had same prob and do not use facebook.
Ian, have you tried a tip that big? It seems to me that most players use approx 10mm, but blokes on the forum are the ones that seem to think smaller is better.
When I was playing regularly, the top players usually used 10mm and bigger and and have been told that most of todays pros use 10mm.
