  • Need a Cue advice

    Hi.
    I've been searching a cue now for a couple of days, here's some information;
I'm a beginner and I'm only 5'5 so I want a shorter than standard cue,
and not a custom one, nothing too expensive - just a machine made
no more than 100 pound cue. Preferably ash, no fancy colours.
I mailed Martin Chesworth asking if he has any cues for me and he responded
    with this:

    What do you think?
    Is it worth the price?
Is it worth ordering it online, no cue damage etc?

Seems a tad over priced for a machine made , even thogh it looks a nice cue .

Personally i would save another £30-40 and go for a craftsman , mastercfaft , mastercue etc .
Before you buy why dont you buy a very cheap cue on ebay and cut the length to what you think suits you , you will know what length to order then .

I will find out the exact length that suits me, I'm not gonna order Martin's cue right away..

For an extra £30-40 cue can get a handmade craftsman , mastercraft , mastercue , the gbl champion cues are around £160 and they are faboulas cues for the money , i have one and i cant fault it in any way .

Have you tried looking at the mass produced cues in places like JJB and Argos?

          Certainly cheap

A good snooker cue can last you a lifetime, so it's worth investing good money in. Why not save up more money and get quality cue - it will probably be better for you in the long run.

I spent four years with a cheap cue and didn't make a break over 80. Then I got a John Parris and started knocking in regular centuries. It really does make a difference. The problem with my former cue was weight distribution - there wasn't enough weight in the butt end, which meant that certain power shots were impossible, and screwing back was very difficult for me. The John Parris made me a better player by about 20 points per frame.

I have a old machine made powerglide cue for sale if you are interested.

It does not have a SD joint on butt, but i can get it done for 25GBP n include a mini butt & tele-extension(both mastercue) inclusive of postage for 120GBP.

If interested, can send me a email willysellcue@yahoo.com

Matan, as mentioned, if you want to take your game a step further, it is well worth getting a cue made to your specs. Whether that be a machined cue, like the victor range from craftsman, or a handmade plain one from someone like Mastercraft at about £130, its def worth having it done to your weight, tip size, length etc.
A well made cue seems to have a lot more consistency on the strike in my opinion, where as cheap ones seem to lack a bit of feel.
That being said, give Ronnie a broomstick with a blue diamond on the end and I bet he will kick my ass!
                  Highest Match Break - 77
                  Highest Practice Break - 101, 106, 111
                  Highest Breaks of 2010 - 76-65-62-61-60-60-59-57

He may well do , but i bet he would not be happy with his performance ! And whatever you do don't say anything about him being his own worst critic otherwise he will stamp his feet , throw his toys out of his pram and run crying to his mummy !
Still trying to pot as many balls as i can !

I'm no Ronnie (even though i'm ambidextrous as well ) but as I already said,
I don't have too much to spend, so ~120-130 is the most I can get,
don't forget I have to buy a case as well, and if I order it online I will (most likely)
                      pay the shipment bill..

when i started playing i bought the victor cue from craftsman cues, ive had that cue for like 4 years and it is still in great condition, hasnt warped at all and it is cheap. i would reccomend that if you need to get a case with your money as well
