  • Finding Your Tip

    Hi Guys.

First post so go easy on me if Im in the wrong place.

I recently got my cue thinned to 8.5mm. Now I had intended to get the cue back and play around with some tips to try and find the one suitable for me. Fortunately the tip that it came back with was perfect for me.

However, the guy that I got to do it was a friend of a friend sorta thing so will be hard to get in contact and find out what tip it was.

I put a new elk on last night and went down for a hit and found it too be too hard. I think came home this afternoon, put a Moori M on and the degree of spin im getting really suits. But the problem is, is that the tip doesnt seem to take any chalk whereas the one that was on initially I never had a problem with.

I would just like too see what tips you guys would recommend for the details Ive given. I like to play a lot of side on the ball (I use the cue for 8 ball) so a hard tip doesnt really suit.

    Yours in Sport

    Cool Hand Kev

Hello Kev. Personally I am currently using a Talisman Soft and have been for the last year or so. I've found it to be really responsive, holds chalk well and is a great all round tip. I must admit that I am a snooker player but do have the odd game of 8 ball and the tip still reacts well with the smaller lighter balls. I've never played with an 8.5mm tip tho', must be like playing with a knitting needle!!
Give the Talisman a try mate, 'cos one persons "ideal" may well be anothers "nightmare", so like with most things it will boil down to personal preference I think.
      Good luck anyway.

ok nice one m8. I'll give a Talisman Soft a try.

I think the only thing putting me off the moori is that it isnt taking chalk very well, just nags you a little mentally I think.

        Cheers

I only play 8 ball now and use a 9mm Talisman soft and have found it brilliant. Was a bit worried about using a layered tip for the light cue ball in 8 ball but really good grip and lasts forever. Just sanded it round every 2 months and feels great.
Did try a Kamoi black medium a few weeks back and very hard, the cue ball too no side off it.
Try and get the 9mm talisman soft then not too much to cut down when fitting.

that's a tough one, kev... what seems like godsend to one may be utter rubbish to another... i know, i've tried quite a few recommendations from this forum and opinions can't be more differing... it really boils down to your personal preference... experiment around, you'll definitely find one that suits you...
