First cue!

I've been playing the game for a few months now with the local club's cues or my step-father his cue (sometimes).
As I am getting better slowly and I now have a snooker table in my house (thank god for classifieds!) I would like to buy my own cue. I've been looking around and there are an awful lot.

The lower price ranges seem clogged with signature cues which seem to me as tricks to sell crap cues to newbs. But I do not consider myself expierienced enough for 180 euro handmade cues and such.

So any suggestions? All help is appreciated

in this price range you mentioned, there are some good cues arround.

you already have a clue how long the cue should be? and the weight?

always check the "selling section" where some very good budget cues listed.

Splash out on a decent cue . As you are kucky enough to have a table , you want to do it justice . There are plenty of good quality cues for sale on this forum . Use the search thread . Keep us updated in your search for a new cue .Good Luck

Are the club cues any good? or do you think you would do better with a broom handle? Any good player should always let a new player have a couple of hits with their cue. Ask some good players in your local club to try their cues, you might be surprised. I know it takes alot to get used to playing with a cue, but being able to use differnt weights and tip sizes will help alot when choosing your own specs. Yes there's alot of very good budget cues out there, but do you really need your own cue NOW? or do you think you can wait a couple of more months and save up for a better one. Unless your planing on playing in competitions then i dont see the need to buy one now if in a couple of more months you could afford alot better one.

I can wait and work a bit. But next to snooker I have other things that require money.

Not just that. My parents have this weird tendency to monitor where my money is going. And I doubt I could justify an expensive cue.

I think I can dosh out 100 euros for a good cue.

As for length and weight. I've played a few cues and noticed different weights but none had my particular preference. Although one was incredibly heavy at the butt and kept shooting off my bridge hand.

I heard a cue had to come up to your shoulders in vertical position. In that case I think it would be about standard length or maybe a bit longer.

Im sure i know which one they will choose. As for spending money on other things, there's always somehing else you could spend your money on. A can of coke, a packet of chips, a packet of condoms? It all comes down to what you really want. Do you want a better cue or not? if so, give some money to your mum and dad to hold onto, and im sure they will see the benifit of their son saving his money to buy something worthwhile.

To be fair one of them doesn't give a damn and I'm sure I can convince the other. Don't want to sound like a frustrated, annoying little teenager but I think I can decide what I buy. They should be glad enough I don't do drugs and such.

So anywho. Will about a 100 euros get me a decent cue? And what are the cues to look for in that range (second and first hand)

if your not sure about your needed cue specs you should go for the "standard ones" like

lenght: 57-58" (145-147cm)
17-18oz (thats what the cues are based on weight)
9,5-10mm tip size
29-30mm butt

look in the cue selling section if you find one in your budget.
most of these are with pictures and price.

but for 100 bucks its hard to find a cue you will play a while with.

for 150+ you can get some realy nice budget cues i guess.

you can ask ADR147 on here for cues.. he got a lot for sell.

and i think ChatLag have a very good playing cue for arround 100€ (not sure about wich specs it have)

100 euros you may be pushing it. I would keep a very keen eye on Uk Ebay. your bound to pick up a good deal there. Just don't jump in and buy the first cue you see. I also wouldnt 'Buy it now' unless you research the cue first. Anything with a signature on it is deffinatly ****e.

I guess I'll just save up and keep an eye on ebay and the classifieds here for a nice cue in the 100-150 range. I can not justify spending more than that.
