  • Parris Cues - Need Advise

first of all: yes it should mean advice not advise

    hey,
im thinking about ordering a new john parris cue.

i have a few questions, please only reply here if your 100% sure.

    1. is ther a big difference between special, paragon and ultimate?
if so, what is it? (does it make sens paying 100 gbp+ more for the ultimate?

    2. if i go for the "normal cues" like classic, ambassador.. is there any/much difference to the made to measure cues?

    3. difference in waiting time between normal cues and made to measure cues?

    thanks,
    regards

a cue is a cue - the only reason for paying the extra is for the looks but also maybe the resale in the future.

well im not 100% sure but ill give u my verdict anyways

1.special paragaon or ultimate, probably is the procedures use in the cue making process and the woods used and the chevrons and arrows in the wood, paying more means doing more work to the cue, i.e balancing, finish, or mayb even selecting the best wood for your ultimate.

2.the normal cues ambassador, classic, traditional are made to sell and in large amounts, are made by many cue makers under JP and mostly for exports or dealers, this are for people who can afford a JP but will not want to go far to order made to measure cues,or do not have the financial resources to do so.there is not a signifcant difference between a normal JP and made to measure JPs unless you are a pro. only that you find custom JPs have a little better looks and quality compared to mass manufactured JPs.

3.definitely u will wait longer for custom made JPs.

my advise is get a normal JP if you are unsure wat spec u want, get the custom made JP if you already know what spec will suit you.regarding special paragon or ultimate, its up to your personal preference on the quality of the cue.literally paying more for ultimate means you are getting a way better quality cue, literally.ive tried an old JP traditional, and its great.

this is my personal opinion, so correct me if im wrong

hehe yes like i said i consider ordering one.
but seems like i have no use of it anymore since im trying out 2 wonderfull cues in the next weeks and realy looking forward to buy on of these.

money and waiting time are the factors though.

well if time and money is your factor go for thai cues, especially UT, Omin and Mastercues are also good.UT's customer service is excellent, he can give u in depth advice on cue specs, with low cost and less waiting time compared to UK cues.UT around USD250 with delivery and stuff. Omin cues are widely popular in Asia. Master is more expensive but good quality. if u are living in Austria, buying from UK will incur a higher cost because of shipping+cue.if you are buying thai cues it will be cheaper.and btw i have heard from many people that thai cues plays as well as UK made cue, ive tried john parris and mastercues and Omins.its about the same, but of course if you're talking about the beauty of the splicing trevor white is the best bet, otherwise any well made cue is good enough

                Hi
I have a 6year old JP exclusive which has a excellent look and finish.
I also have a 4 day old JP Regal and the look and finish is not quite as good but is still very good.

So the more you spend the better the finish; I guess

Exclusive might be for sale if anyone is interested, the spec and pics will be in the "CUE" post under "Pictures of cues" I think its that.
