  • Professional Snooker Tip Shaper

Does anyone know how or what device say Parris, White, H&O etc use to shape the tips they put on and where can I get one.

They probably just use a piece of sandpaper on a block (H&O defo do as it's on there website), as most most tip tools/shapers tend to be gimmicks that aren't that effective. :snooker:
    hope this helps.

Use a small piece of sandpaper ( folded over ) and gently rub down over the tip, turning the cue... Follow this up with some cardboard to burnish the tip to keep the fibres contained and around the edge. There are many ways to burnish the edge, some people use a £20 note ( I'm skint tho! ). Very fine wire wool to finish off the ferrule and keep it shiny.

Repeat this process until you are happy with what you have... This is my pro granite yet to be played in:

Does cleaning the ferrule with wire wool make you play any better?

After a few years, you will be needing a new ferrule. My cue never had anything other than some sandpaper on the tip and a slightly damp cloth on the shaft in over 30 years. Sandpaper never, ever touched the shaft and it has never been oiled since the day it was made.
        :snooker:

PS:- By the way CoolBlue, you have made a good job of your tip.

That is a beaut, what grade sandpaper did you use and how long did it take?

Using Wire Wool............ 0000 Grade won't Harm your Ferrule at all as I have done it for Many Years and never Changed my Tip Size doing so.

            Hope that Helps. :snooker:

I've always used the finest wire wool and have never needed a new ferrule [yet?]... Anything harsher than that, or sandpaper... I guess anyone would. The ferrule is the same as when I bought the cue 13yrs ago.

Make me play better? Mmmmmm... I feather very close to the white and depending on the light from the table, I can see how close I am to the cueball while cueing... it helps me prevent touching the white ( although that still happens now and again! ). May sound silly to a lot of people, but it helps me with my timing.

              Hope this helps.

I don't use any set grade. It can vary. Sometimes I'll just sit around and chill... and gradually shape it in @ 30mins or so. Just take your time and you can't go wrong.
