its down to personal preference, mostly.

youre slightly taller than average, so it would seem "natural" to have a slightly longer cue....

As a quick rule of thumb we always recommend to go for around shoulder height.

i know you said "as a quick rule of thumb", but thats far from ideal as it really only "works" for players around average height, or smaller than average, as the can hold the cue further up the butt.

for taller than average players this "quick rule of thumb" is far from ideal, IMHO.

im average height and use an "average length cue".

if someone was 8 inches taller than me, i doubt a cue 8 inches (or slightly less, factoring for shoulder height not being overall height) would suit.

Oooo I'm in a similar boat!
I'm 6ft and got a 58in cue but I feel it's a bit long!
I was thinking I may go back to a 57in cue!
I suppose there's the option of getting a 57 1/2in cue made.
I know alot of people shorter than me happy with a 58in cue but I think the years of holding the 57 in right at the end makes me feel uncomfortable if I hold a longer cue further up.

exactly watford

personal preference

although, you could just take a little bit off the tip end of the cue...1/3 inch?

wouldnt affect the balance noticeably, for most players.

It all depends on how long your arms are and how long you bridge is too. 57-58" is around average and most players regardless of height will have cues made to that length. I would say the longest you would need to go is up to 60" but that would take some getting used to and probably would suit someone of say 6'2" or above. Anything longer and it would be too long and probably play horribly too.

If you have a 58 inch cue then a 57 or a 57½ are equally possible – it all depends on your positioning of the saw.

Thanks statman I'll get the black & Decker out when I get home!

I'am currently thinking of getting a new cue anyway!
I'm thinking Shorter and lighter than my current cue, maybe even a different tip size!
hmmmmm and possibly in maple rather than ash!
The problem is I can't really make my mind up!

Oh right I played with a cue at craftsman cues that was smaller than 57, it felt quite good to me!
I'm going to have to do more experimentation!
Are there any disadavantages?

a 55 inch cue isnt any use for using to pick your mates nose in the snooker hall from a distance of arms length+56 inches.

maybe

You've got one on you today havent you!
Ok so any other disadvantages of having a short cue other than it's limited use for nose picking at distance!

I was thinking more like not getting as not being able to follow through as well!

Oh god I shouldn't of said that either should I!!!
