  • 59 inch cue wanted

Hi I'm looking for a 59 inch cue cut to experiment with. I don't want to spend a lot of money on it because as I said it just for experimenting. It doesn't have to be from a top cue maker but if it is I might consider paying more for the right cue, I may also swap my JP special.
    Spec's required

    59 inch
    balance at 17 to 18
Butt size no more than 30
    tip 9.5

    How tall are you?
We mixed and matched a couple of JP cues last night and one set came out at 59.2" long, and all 3 of us doing it agreed that the cue was too long.

cue length is down to the individual. I played better with my 60" cue than my new 58" one. Now waiting for a 59" to be made. i'm 6ft 5

I'm only 5, 11, but every time a post comes up on this subject they all say that its the lenght of your arms that count. Any way my misses has always said that my legs are too short for my body, so maybe I'm a six foot person with short legs, Ha Ha.
No seriously the que is just for experimenting, If I could pick up a 59 inch racker I would, but 59inch cues are hard to get hold of.

Very long cues seem to play funny to me. The ones I've played with have tended to have small tips too so maybe that makes a difference to. Be interested in what any cuemaker think about this.

Well my 59" is coming from Trevor White and he didn't seem to think it would be a problem.

It's funny how you get people who say you should play with what your happy with and then you get the conformist, that get out raged if you go out side of the norm. I think this is a problem within snooker as a whole, if you don't hold the cue this way and stand like this, there’s something wrong with you, I don't think Alex Higgins would have ever have achieved any thing in the game if he tried to play like Steve Davis, we should let players express themselves and experiment. If all the young blood are over coached, instead of finding there own way it's hard to see where the next Jimmy white is going to come from. Just my view, but I hope is shared by others: snooker:

that's a very good point cazmac1 ... having said that, most people (including me) benefit by shortening their cue delivery which requires less cue length ...

how far is your cue tip from the cue ball at the address position? I too tend to bring the white back slightly to the right over the spots if it's an inch or more ... but if I'm cueing well (1/4 to 1/2 inch) the white will come back straight ... maybe a longer cue is causing you to cue closer to the white?

                      brilliantly said. cannot agree more.

i genuinely one thing that truly plagues our sport is that we have tuned to a more technical focus, which ironically is also the thing that makes so many good players too. its not just the mechanic bits. but also the fact that you cant find anything different amongst the players. they are also the same. same "standard" grip, same "standard" stance, and so on.

it doesnt make the players or the game boring. but it makes it less exciting at times by being less distinctive. there arent enough outliers.

with regards to cues, i see it as it being all about comfort zones and affording for it. its not like we can purchase a set of cues with all the different combinations of specs, let alone all the combination of woods and combinations of splice styles.

i dont think its about being non-conformist or not. i think its merely about comfort zones. innovation and improvement stems from walking out of them, seeking new territory, and reaching new heights.

The current world champion Neil Robertson uses a 59 in cue and I think he is around 6.2 ft whereas Mark Williams is 6.3ft but he uses a 57in cue so it's down to your personal preference.
As far I know 59in is the max length I have seen the pros using,I won't recommend anyone going over 59in.

                            cazmac:

Post a link when you get it up on YouTube as I would like to see where your foot is underneath the cue. I've had a student who has his straight foot back behind the cue (in the address position) by about 8in. A lot of pool players stand this way.

This misalignment caused him to buy a 59in cue and when he corrected it he found he was fine with a 57in cue, his height was just under 6ft.

On the other hand, the straight leg behind the grip hand does take a little stress off the back and hips for the older players

I'm six two and use a sixty one inch cue. It enables me to play with my bridge arm straight, and also enables me to adjust where I grip the cue in relation to playing short range or long shots. Right at the end of the butt for long shots and further up the butt for shorter range shots is the norm.
You can find a chinese cue on ebay 60 inches long with case and extensions for about a ton if you can afford that, my mate got one and it's fine.
