  • When Do You Know You're 'Good Enough' to Buy a TW/MW/JP?

I'd just like to know what you guys think about how good you have to be to warrant buying one of the higher-end cues, such as Trevor White, Mike Wooldridge or John Parris.
    whatcha reckon?

Personally if i was serious about the game and knew i was dedicated enough to put the hours in to want to improve then whatever level i,m at i would,nt hesitate buying a top end cue , whats the worst that can happen you lose heart after several months of trying your heart out with little improvement , so you sell the cue and get your money back .

Adleast bye getting a cue made to your spec by a top cuemaker then your giving yourself the very best chance of improving .

I agree with everything Hotpot said.
I guess that in your position, JRobbins, having only been playing for 6 months, your problem might be that you don't really know what specs of cue you like yet. Other than that, if you have the desire to improve and the money for a top end cue then buy one.
A 67 break after only 6 months is going some!

Im rubbish and have just bought a H&O

On a serious note there is nothing wrong with having the best equipment for whatever you are engaged in, be it snooker, golf, wristwatches or photography.

If you can justify the money then go for it and as Hotpot said, the resale vale for high end cues is very good to say the least.

What style of H&O did you get ben4watches? Listed or custom?

Oh... do you wear an Omega too?

Just go for it.. You only live once.. If you enjoy snooker, get the best... why not? If you don't resell your custom made cue, it will be worth a few £££'s in years to come..

As it happens I have on my Ed White as I type this

Its a 1965 pre professional model which was worn by Ed White on Gemmini 4 (I think)

I think that for 95% of players a top end cue won't don anything for their game compared to a good straight £40 cue. So if your looking to improve your game, top money doesn't always mean top results.
However if your buying a Trevor White, Wooldridge, Parris, Cook then you will get something that is lovely to look at, feels nice and like has already been said will resell for near what you brought it for (or more).
If your looking to move your game on then I'd advise trying the cue before you buy it, remember cost comes second compared to the affinity you have with the cue.
Anyways... go for it! then post some pictures for all to drewl over
Forget it, Donny, you're out of your element

I think it was on here that someone said:
"You don't have to be the best player in the world to have the best cue in the world"

Not all Ferrari, Aston Martin and Lambourghini owners are the best drivers in the world lol

a powerglide won more titles than any other single cue. makes you think doesn't it

Sorry mate but Burroughes and Watts have won loads more than Powerglide. That just with Steve Davis and John Pulman off the top of my head
Oh yeah and that Powerglide did fall to bits.

But I agree a top cue doesn't make you a good player but if you enjoy it why the hell not.
In the grand scheme of things even top cues don't cost a lot compared to what people with other hobbies spend.

i am afraid although i like the idea, experience tells me people play better with better cues.

i'm glad i love cues as much as i love snooker.
my gf thinks 2 is more than enough....and the 2 cue cases take up space.
but then i replied to her by saying "you should be glad im not a car enthusiast"
