No problem. It can be a bit confusing.

The plate looks about 1930 to me (give or take a decade).

Murtons were established in 1894 (Henry A. Murton) and moved to Grainger Street about 1906. They were originally a billiard table manufacturer but developed into quite a big general sports retailer with another outlet in Sunderland. Whether they actually made any of the stuff they sold at this time I'm not sure, but there are certainly a lot of products in the North East with their brand on it – from playing cards to domino sets. They seem to have a lot of billiard tables in the region as well, but in later years they were mainly selling cushions (The Meteor) which they fitted to existing tables of other manufacture.

They were most prolific between the wars and my last reference to them comes in 1939.
