i prefer A, i.e. with the badge nearer the butt end of the cue...

I agree with Willytan that the font should be thicker and bolder.
Half way between A & B would suit me best. Definitely lower than B.
      Enjoy looking at your work.

I think I would fall in the "A" category :snooker:

I'd go for the higher position, personally. Seems more balanced.

The lower one sort of gives me the feeling of a title written close to the bottom of a page rather than a footer sort of thing. Visually I feel like there should be a little bit more wood shown off underneath it, like the presentation aspect is a little bit of wood showing either side of the badge and more wood visible above and below.

Have you tried calculating the optimum spot via the golden ratio? Maybe from one of the splices to the butt end of the cue or something like that.

As you are a maker I can understand why you would want to get it right. Personally I like em lower.

However given the choice I's go for a plate type badge, presumably there is more work involved routing them out?

I am with you on that, Steve180. Much prefer the type of badge as used by Burroughes and Watts.

What do you think of this idea, poolqjunkie?

Talking about font, the text does look a bit weak. Are they in black? Or somewhat grey? But trust me don't change them to bold. Serif fonts don't look good in bold. Might be good if there's medium weight of that font family. My advice is make the name "Aurora Custom Cue" bigger. It makes more sense that "Hand Spliced, Canada" is smaller than the your name.

Same here. Love the classic look of badge. Especially almost all cue makers use disc these days. Disc does look more modern though.

usually "A" is more classic... just beware that don't be too close to the butt end, it's more risky to be crack as it's too close to the butt joint/ring.

"B" is too high, it's really close to the bevel edge of the splice, maybe not so smooth in hand feeling.

IMO, may be better leave at least 12mm space from the butt end.

btw, please don't mind that, IMO, the badge is really low end, as a custom hand made product should be matched with a more premium branding plate. may focus on this issue in next topic if you feel neccessary.
                                :) :) :)
