  • Splicings

Hi I have a Stamford cue plain ebony butt. I love it. But I want some splicings in for a couple of reason. One that a fair few people have plain black and want mine to be a little different. Two a couple of cues have been stolen recently and obviously if mine looks a little different would be easier to identify.

I went to stamford about getting a new cue with the same spec, and then the person who i brought my cue off wanted it back and asked me to trade. The cue he is offering has 4 rosewood (i think) with maple veneers. Which does look really good but when using it just didnt feel like my cue even tho pretty much same specs.

Basically i got told instead of just buying a new cue if im happy with mine just get splicings put into it? Does this make more sense then getting a new cue or trading ?

Ithink if you had wood for splices that was similar in weight to ebony then the feel and balance would be pretty much the same , if you had heavier wood it would probably make the cue heavier and may not have the exact feeling .

Pheraps one of the cuemakers can advise you .

if you are playing well, then keep it the same or maybe you can get a custom badge done by stamford instead of adding splice on the cue.
It makes the cue unique in its own way.

The only bad about having a custom badge is that if it have your name or initial engrave on it, it will be very hard to sell off then again....

It might get you a better price since the badge is a one-off which is not readily available...

Btw, thks Hotpot for your kind words....

Stamford added extra spices to my cue 4x thuya burr
            with maple veneers
they made sure the weight was the Same
the cue plays the same now as it did just with fancy splices
            about £100 all told

All the cue makers should easily be able to put up a new splice without compromising your original weight & balancing point.

Maybe you can check who is within your area n have the job done by them & have your original badge put in place.

Going back to Stamford will definitely be the best cos if the badge was broken during the work, they will be able to put in a new one for you or even do you a customize badge.

I had to convince them to put the thuya on all four splices
as they didn't want to originally because they said it was
                      too soft and marks easilly
give them a ring as I think I had one of the very last pieces
they had and didn't know when they would get any more in
although they were taking a delivery of snakewood, which
I think looks as good as the thuya
