new cue, tip question

Got my new Cue from Paul @ Welsh Pool Trading. The tip is quite rough. As this is my first "proper" cue, do I need to sand the tip down, or just chalk it up. Sorry for the newbie question.

Well the cue is getting more use. Had 4 frames on saturday, tip is now looking fine, really getting to love this cue
