      Hi nosta,

Sounds good. where would I get the dust and how to apply it? ..I'm guessing but would it be mixed with a wood filler or glue?

      Thanks

          Thanks Doc,

looking through that thread was helpful but st am unsure about filling the grain as well as blackening it..

I talked to Robert Osbourn and he uses his own mix, do you know this kind of mix?

Hi j6uk, I recently cut down and retapered a cheap chinese cue and found as I had been told that the chevrons are painted on, obviously as they disappeared. Makes me wonder whether my $400, supposedly English made cue, was made using the same technique, not so much the shaft I hope, but the butt splices espescially.
Anyway I won't sand the lacquer off the butt in fear of finding out the truth.
In saying that I love my cue.
The feel of the timber, the weight 18oz, it's straightness and of cause the 11 chevrons keep me feeling good about my game.

I have a question regarding getting ash shaft as smooth as glass.

I've recently been trying to find a 3/4-butt to replace my 1-piece Aurora and in this search I bought 2 Trevor White cues. In comparison to the other types of cues I bought these 2 cues have very smooth ash shafts, virtually the same as the feel of maple or even better.

Does anyone know what Trevor or other cuemakers who are known for their smooth shafts (like O'min too) use to get the shaft like that?

The only thing he's revealed on this topic was that he uses his own special grain filler, but maybe a process of burnishing is involved too?
