  • Type of Cue...

I have been playing snooker for a 7 years now and i have decided to treat myself to a John Parris Ulitmate Cue.

I was just wondering what people would choose out of.

    1 piece cue - 3/4 cue - 1/2 cue

    Also please explain your why.

    Thank you

I would have a 1 piece or a 3/4 never a 1/2 cue. If you got a 1/2 piece cue the joint gets annoying and I think it's not as solid as a 1 piece or 3/4 thats why they moved the joint 3/4 of the way down the cue.

Plus they look better and more professional

There isn't a right or wrong, it just depends on what you prefer. What have you been using for the past 7 years? I would stick with something similar to what you have been using.

I use a 1 piece and would only ever use a 1 piece cue in future. I think it gives a better feel for the shot and this can only help your game.

I use 1/2 piece, but I've never used others regularly so I can't tell which is best.
You play a long slow deadweight red to a corner pocket. As it approaches the pocket, a kamikaze woodlouse crawls out from under the cushion and makes its way across the table, conflicting with the path of the red precisely at the point the red gets there. The red, needless to say, veers off course, and the future of the woodlouse is uncertain. - The Statman

I use a 1 piece cue, simply because that's the cues they have at the local pool hall. ;-)

OK perhaps i was stupid because i would never get a 1/2 joint but thought i would post it.

I have a 3/4 but i have always wanted a 1 piece cue for some reason.

If i go up to Parris Cues with my cue i got now do you think he could weigh it and replicate it? I don't really want to get it much different as i have been playing with it for years.

Yes of course, but whether you want a total replica or just copy the same sizes just take it along. Its easy enough to measure the cue though, the main factors are tip size, length, weight and butt diameter.

I have a 1/2 cue and don't see as it's any worse than a 1 piece or a 3/4. It's just what you get used to playing with. 1 piecers are a bit cumbersome to lug to the club, or the pub if i'm playing pool.

in theory a 1 piece cue cue should be "more constant", and so better.

jointed cues do not make too much of a difference. not so that your average club player would be able to tell.

in fact, id guess most top players couldnt guess correctly more than 60% of the time if they were given 100 cues to hit about with for half an hour each, with the centre of each cue taped over to conceal whether theres a joint or not in it. some would be able to, but not too many, IMHO.

3/4 joints do 2 main things IMHO. they ensure the joint isnt under the chin, and rubbing against it, with some players. they also mean your hitting the cueball with a more solid piece of wood at the front end, which some cuemakers say makes a difference.

personal preference again, id say. i dont think 3/4 joints look more preofessional at all. they just look like some of the cues that the top pros use.

ive used all kinds of cues mentioned, and my favourite has been 1/2.

I have always used a 2 piece (1/2 cue) due to the fact that it is easier to carry around when playing. I have held a few 1 pieces in my business and they feel great. People do say that 1 piece cues hit more consistently buy as Semih says most players would not be able to notice.
