Replacing centre joint

Been thinking of getting a new better quality joint fitted for my two piece centre jointed cue. Is this difficult or can things go wrong?
I was thinking that once the old joint was taken out the shaft might have to be trimmed/shaped a bit and I could end up with a shorter cue?
What are pros and cons? Thanks.

JRC Current joint is not actually broken but it can work itself loose after playing for a while. It ruins my concentration having to continually check that the joint is tight. My concentration is bad at the best of times.
