  • Omin - centre split cues in product line up?

Love the look of the Omin cues (though can't work out hierarchy of product line up). I am curious as to whether Omin manufacture centre split cues?

For context. I enjoy playing 8 ball pool and use the cues provided at venues. My skill level would be beginner level - so immediate cue purchase not on cards. But I am looking to a future buy. Thoughts and advice on Omin cues appreciated.

Can't say i've come across any centre split, but they do customs so it wouldn't be a problem.

I'm really impressed with the one I have definitely recommended, same goes for master cue.

    Good luck.

It's best to go with a cuemaker who's done a lot of center joint cues. If they aren't done well you can end up with a crappy hit and poor balance. Mastercue don't have the best rep for taking individual custom orders and I suspect that Omin rarely get asked to do center split joints.

One person I can definitely vouch for is a Brisbane cue maker called Zak.
He has a lot of experience making center joint, 3/4 and 1pce cues and did a great job of fixing up my old two piece pool cue. It hits beautifully, you can bash the cue any way you like and not hear any vibrations and it's really well balanced.

You'd be looking at a minimum of $400 I think but it's money well spent, no hassles with overseas orders. And the ash he's using for his shafts these days is very good. I've seen 3 or 4 recent ones and they compared well with the ash on Parris and Wooldridge cues I've seen.
      Tear up that manure-fed astroturf!

Zac's cues are very good, although I think that he may be a bit overpriced, compared to the likes of Trevor white. In saying that what you would save on posting a cue from England is better spent on the cue anyway.

If you want to spend up around $400 Aus then there's alot of options. If not then O'min, Mastercue and Uncle thai are cheaper. You can specify balance point etc so doubt there'd be any problems.

Unclevit is a good guy to chat with if you have more questions about thai cues.

What sort of prices would I be looking at for an (custom centre split) Omin cue?

The Classic and the Imagine look good - ditto the Union. Some nice pics here

I'm unable to PM Unclevit due to account restrictions. Do you have an email addy?

chopper : Thanks. I am still behind many orders. But still can do Omin and Uncle Thai. If 'tournament grade' shaft is a must, then I would suggest Uncle Thai. If beauty is priority, then go for Omin. Starting from any order placed before Sep.20, delivery date is expected around end of November, or sooner. I can still offer best Thai prices for custom orders + free 6" mini butt for TSF members (I now have 3 offices to run about every week, so can do personal shaft selections at weekends only. Great shafts for those who can wait )

Why do you believe they are the better choice? I'm not familiar with UT cues...

Which model is that quote for? Do you have pics?

Some nice pics here - http://www.omincuesthai.com/

Unfortunately for me, descriptions are in Thai and Google translation is not the best.

Yep I do get the impression that Uncle Thai or Omin would do a good job of it. Just never heard of a center joint cue made by those guys.

Thanks for the responses guys. I did ping Zak (Australian cuemaker) with a quote request but he didn't get back to me. Unclevit has been extremely helpful, so I've just sent money to him for an Omin classic cue. I went with a 3/4 split. Also interested in an Uncle Thai cue too for my lady...

I've been told the process will take some time but I will update with pics when cue arrives.
