I do a little messing about with cues, amost exclusively butchering them for myself.
A pal of mine came to me with a mastercue that was tinging recently and it turned out when the joint was fitted the aperture in the butt for the female joint had been machined too large.
Obviously that means only the glue would be holding the joint in place, well what they've done is drilled through the bottom of the joint and sunk a Phillips screw into the ebony. I couldn't believe it.
Worse when I got it out it wasn't even glued, only the screw was holding it in place.
Anyway within days I then see a craftsman with exactly the same thing only it was glued and screwed.
Has anyone else seen this?
I can't believe it's common?
