How do you store your many cues?

I'd like to know why people are against just sticking cues in a verticle rack? When I went to school gravity only acted in one direction, so they wont warp! If you do as Dan mentioned and make round holes in a couple of lengths of 2x2 (rather than using clamps which can cause damage to the shafts), you can store a lot of cues in a smallish space. I currently have space for 72 cue's in the racks but have run out of wall space! The next plan is just take them down, use 3x2 and stagger them closer together, a kind of front row/back row design but where you can still see each clearly. I'm thinking this will leave me room for ~120 cues so may see this year out .
I may get these done in a nice stained oak, admittedly the pine ones don't look too classey.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(yes I know they're not cheap, I didn't intend them to be!..)

I’m just curious about laying them out flat? With the butt not being round, do you not run the risk of the tip being suspended in the air? Won’t this cause warping over time? I stand mine upright, but was considering making a flat bed under my table, but was worried about the above.

How about cue makers like John Parris, how does he store his cues? He must have quite a lot of partially finished and finished cues in his shop I would imagine.
Personally, I like to just drill some holes on a piece of wood, put it on top of a rack, and then store the cues vertically in the holes. I can monitor the humidity level with a gauge right on the rack, and control it by a de-humidifier near by. Wont take up too much room neither.
If I store them all flat in tubes, I am not sure if they are all under the same humidity level because the tubes can trap moisture inside. I dont know, may be it is not a big deal...I am not sure.
I also hang my cues up sometimes.Last edited by poolqjunkie; 20 September 2010, 08:55 PM.

hey pooljunkie,
could you kindly further comment on hanging cues? what are the upsides and downsides to it?
is there a particular way to hang them? what things should i look out for (ie. like humidity levels)?Last edited by jonnylovessn8ker; 20 September 2010, 11:29 AM.See new updates: http://cueporn.tumblr.com/

well one guy i knew use to store them in a warehouse. but the palce got burnt down a while ago =[ sigh over 400+ cues in there. he was a collector see.. think his name was john tait? or taito? not sure. good bloke, met him playing a tourney.
i had this idea of a sliding wall system, where velcrow them to the wall. and u can walk in and out, or slide them out like a vertical draw where the top n bottom r hinged and slide in n out. so u might need the space of a wardrobe, but if u can get 10 or 12 like, "wall" thingies in there, and slide them in n out and put 20 cues on each side, thats like 300 cues in the space of 2m by 1m. and the height of the wardrobe height wouldnt be a problem either. just a thought...
