That's really bad to hear about the chalk the venue was handing out. To be honest though a good player will always have their own block of chalk. Yes i think it's time to go ebaying...

Ah yes. I'm not a good player though am improving. It didn't enter my mind that pool chalk wouldn't be on hand. Still, lesson learned. Will procure proper pool chalk. Mind, the venue cues were rubbish too. Screw in tips and they appeared to be rubber. Also cue I had was warped from just below the ferrule. So using the graphite cue was definitely an improvement.

I've ordered an Omin cue from Unclevit so I can avoid having to use sub-standard cues. I think the OP is OK with using a cue that isn't a venue cue. I could get by on a much lesser cue but I'm enjoying myself playing pool so thought I'd splurge on a mid-price cue of a good quality.

ahhh cues in australia. tbh value for money, you cant go past cheap ebay cues if u want to spend minimal and get something a touch better than a house cue. im talking about those JYX, MYX, Top woods and jian ying type mass produced hand spliced chinese cues. becareful tho. some arent as good as others. the dark horse ones (myx) hav always been decent hitters tho. they get my thumbs up for around 100 bux delivered.
otherwise, look for a second hand Omin from either willytan or unclevit if he can get any. or CM1's etc. thai cues are top quality for money if your looking to spend around 2-300 mark (not excessive for a cue?)

Craftsman have a good range of hand-spliced and machine-spliced Thai cues by King Cues and Master Cue. From 100 to 200+ pounds. GBL also have those brands but generally in a higher price bracket I think - not so many machine-spliced cues. The good thing about GBL is that Stu takes the time to listen to what you want and make some recommendations, he will also provide you with comprehensive pics showing the grain of the shaft (not like one prominant seller here).

If your going to invest in a handmade cue, I would get a parris as they hold there price so if it don't suit you you can sell it on. Other cue makers who use this forum make very good cues but haven't got that sell on factor.
I think ronnie is back using a JP so you can't go far wrong.
Ps I know your not looking for an ultimate but all johns cues are good

Aussies, looking for a cue, something to consider. If you don't mind spending the cash you may head towards the big names in the UK or the like. However there are plenty of people saying good things about there Thai made cue/s. In other words Mastercue, Omin, Unique and it looks like Phoenix brand may be another good option........
Thailand is not too far away and the fact that it is hotter there, than here, doesn't hurt. Good quality and good prices generally speaking. Plenty of info and help on those brands here. Just make sure your covered by insurance when posted.
