  • Making the cue lighter..

I've searched the forums but found no threads about this, so im hoping someone can help me.
Is there any way to make my cue lighter? its 18oz and the butt feels rather heavy.

any info would be appreciated, thanks

Two things to think about here, the first is to bore out the butt via the base to drill out the ebony/rosewood depending on what its made from, till you get the weight right & refill with something lighter, depending how far you drill you may find a metal weight inside anyway, unless its naturally weighted.

Other key thing is where the balance point is on the cue as some cues can be exactly the same weight yet be heavier or lighter when actually using the cue depending on the balance point.

Altering the weight can also alter the balance point & sometimes a cue can feel strange if the the base of the butt has had some weight taken out of it then the rest of butt is heavier feels like a strange light spot at the end which doesn't always feel right.

If you decide to do it make sure you bore out the weight evenly, else it will feel like a badly weighted old cue that only sits right in one spot or leave it to a cuemaker as it wouldn't cost that much to do & i'm sure they'd get it feeling spot on.

      Hope this helps a bit..............

        thanks for the quick responce!
yeah this has helped quite abit, i wasn't going to do it myself as im sure i'd mess it up one way or another.

it actully has a joint for mini butt aswell so i would deffinately need help with this.
do you know roughly how much it would cost to do?
        cheers

depending on how much you want to reduce the weight by, taking out the sd joint could actually take off an ounce or so depending on the type, that would give you an idea how much weight you wanted to take out & what the cue would be like after.

I would think it would be around £20 or so for a cuemaker to do it, but best to get quotes as i'm sure this will vary quite alot.

Good luck with it anyway mate......

Dave Coutts charges the unbelievably low price of just £10 for reweighting according to his website - altho more than likely you will need to post there & back as well.

yeah i'll look around and see what quotes i get then because i don't wanna spend too much on it, seeing as i paid £15 for it. 3/4 piece jointed with mini butt from china.
i only wanted about an ounce off anyways.
              Thanks ant

And with it being quite weighty it might end up costing me another tenner
