Thanks Jrc, The reason I asked is because I've been playing with my new trevor white cue for some time now and have lost total form the butt on this cue is 30mm. My previous JP cue butt size is 28mm and since going back to this cue my potting has improved. I think it is to do with the way I grip the the cue. With the smaller butt I tend to grip the cue much like SH. So just wanted to see if the butt on his cue was small. I think I could go down to 27 aswell. Going to get the Trevor white cue altered. I'm going to get JP to do the work, he will know for sure as he has made many cues for SH.

Actually I think that he has stopped using Acuerate cue last season and changed to Parris cue
You cannot improve your game if you don't have a cue and snooker table

The point here is that JP will have the spec's as he has made a few cues for him.

When are you going to stop tinkering with your cue and just get your nut down and start to play the game

Getting fed up reading your posts on changing your cue specs , now go to the doctors and tell him you have Dominic Dale-itis !

Stopped tinkering with my cue [and tips !] and played last week the worst session i've played for a long time . Can't tinker anymore . So don't know what the hell to do now . Suppose i need to get my NUT down .
Still trying to pot as many balls as i can !

I'm on a quest to find my perfect cue and am doomed to search for infinity
Neil I been practicing really hard lately and am learning new things all the time the fact is since I stop using my JP my game has gone down hill. I moved away from the spec's that were working hoping to improve my game instead I've made it worse. I'm going back to my oringinal JP spec's. Hence I'm taking the TW To JP.

I'm glad that you are using your TW cue . How long to get it altered ?

                        cazmac:

I doubt it's the butt diameter that is the cause of your problem betgween the 2 cues. It's more likely to be either the shaft flex or even just the tip on the TW.

As a player who is still searching for that 'perfect cue for me' I can feel your pain and after trying many second hand cues which weren't exactly on my specs I now have a custom TW ordered to my exact specs and it sure looks like it's going to be the 'ONE'.

I still have 3 more cues coming though as a hold-over from my search days, so I'll see how that goes. I have to admit I do prefer a 29mm butt though even though my hands are normal sized.

Mmmmmm, this sounds familiar. The cue I've used for many years is a JP 18 1/2 oz, 9.5mm, 57 1/2", 26mm butt, dark ash.

I've recently been trying out another cue (Robert Osborne). 19 1/2 oz, 9.5mm, 58", 29mm totally round butt, light ash.

Not much of a difference in specs right? But OMG... what a difference in the way I can't play!

I can appreciate the RO cue is a beautifully crafted cue. The shaft is slightly thicker (but feels overly so while cueing) and not whippy at all. This affects throw by a longer way to that I am used to. The JP on the other hand is slimmer all round. Even the way the JP's wood looks, being much older the ash has become very dark over the years (I think it was fairly dark when I bought it back in 1996 or so), and just looks better to me than the lighter ash (some ppl will say that's silly).

The RO's appearance (ash) is much lighter (because it is new?) and I just cannot get on with it. I've gone back to my old cue a few times since and I hardly miss a ball, or play a shot AS badly. Why though??? It's as if the new cue has highlighted how good my old cue always has been. After trying the newer cue, my old one 'feels' SO right for me. If I had to nail ONE aspect of the new cue that is a dealbreaker for me... it is the 29mm butt instead of the far slimmer 26mm I am used to. Doesn't sound like much, but the difference in 'feel' on so many shots is night and day. I tried a few cues a while back and thought I "liked" a thicker butt, this has since proven to be incorrect.

I'm torn now between persevering with new cue or going back to what I know. In a way, it's good to see ppl on this forum going through the same pain, at least I know it's not unusual!

                          PS.
I'm not sure if someone like TW or Robert Osborne could slim down the butt without damaging the nameplate?

                            cues

its about time snooker players realized its not the cue its the person behind it snooker is all in the head whats inbetween your ears on the day your playing, most people if they can play a bit will always have a good day a bad day ,a good session a bad session , not everbody can be brilliant all the time if we were there would be millions of pros about, accept your only mediocre and try to concentrate because that is were its at
