Reason for the question, does playing with, says a John Parris cue going to improve your game, if so, why, compared to something from local sports shop??? I know this discussion may be somewhere else, but I can't seem to work out how the hell to do a search.
    Hi pinguS
Really good players can play with just about any cue but having a well made cue also makes you feel confident so you play better.
Sports shops cues are more than likely going to have a horrible varnish like finish to them which will annoy the hell out of you when they become sticky, whereas a John Parris cue or any of the many others available will have a lovely smooth oiled finish to them which in comparison is a million times better. The cue will also be well balanced so will feel so much better when playing the shots. You must try and get a go of a decent cue down your club to see and feel the difference, you will definitely notice a big change.
To use the search button, look on the green strip along the top, click on "search" enter some key words, then press "go" - hopefully you will find lots of relevant info. :snooker:

I don't know the person in question, but my guess is that he was quite capable of making an 80 break before he played with the cue in question.

Any cue will pot balls if the player behind it has some degree of talent and technique. A well made cue is generally going to be more responsive and made from better quality materials than something which cost £20 in a sports shop.

If you have been playing snooker with a cheap cue and haven't been making particularly big breaks there is no way that buying a more expensive cue is going to suddenly make you a fantastic snooker player.

It works both ways...Any professional snooker player would be able to play to a high standard if they swapped their usual cue (lets assume they played with an expensive handmade cue) for a rack cue because it is not the cue which makes them great players.

      Hope this helps.

Thats understandable, but my question was aiming more I suppose to the fact that a more expensive cue is as answered by jrc750 going to be smoother, so it helps confidence I suppose. Thus making it mentally easier to play, I suppose......

I'm looking at a john parris ambassador, not because I'm good (only knocking 20-40's) but because I just like the look of it, and it has 9mm tip which I prefer. Anything to get away from my 40 quid banana.

p.s. sorry for thread hi jack..

No probs, the cue is sold. Welcome to TSF Pingus, I can't really add any more to what has allready been said. Only to say that a qulity cue will allow you to play to the best of your current ability and if you are serious about the game I would highly reccomend you perchase a good cue.
          Goodluck hopes this helps
