            grain filler

go on craft supplies sites and most of them do ruskins grain filler mix i think to a paste with white spirit looks like **** till youve sanded back to original but fills most of grain if not all

                grain filler

hi caz dont think you need it for ebony you will get away with a sanding sealer which will seal and fill little bits you mite get in ebony if its for your cue butts on existing cue you wont need anyway ,what i did was mix a sealer with some filler in a powder type form and made a paste sanded with 400 grit then oil and then sanded with 400 grit which used the oil to polish as well then more oil even a french type polish and just kept buffing in lathe, you need the grain filler for the shafts and woods like padouk with a open grain hope this helps

Sorry jim, you misunderstood me. The filler is for the shaft, just want to get a nice dark finished in the grain. Get you suggest which one to use.
I have an old cue that I sanded down and then used a course wire wool on it which hand the effect of lifting all the grain filler out.

If its any help i use a ebony wax block and gently rub onto the grain and it fills the grain nicely, then use very fine sanding pad microfine then some beeswax and find this bring the cue grain up lovely, hope this helps
Available at a place called brewers they do all sorts of paint and sandpaper supplies.

                      grain filler

to be honest everything ime doing is trial and error, befor i started trying to make cues i always used beeswax and plenty of elbow grease then i took them to a old cue man in sheffield and they came back like new but sometimes not finished if you can understand that so then started using coutts oil and beeswax now i use sanding sealer ,grain filler linseed oil mixed with teak or danish oil, plenty of 400 wet and dry with oils and just keep polishing it depends on the finish you want, thats why i keep trying to pick the brains of the pro cue makers you learn bits everytime you talk to 1 of them but they are protective of there secrets lol,all i want to do is make a cue that in my opinion somebody could buy, but like i said at beginning its trial and error and quite a bit of firewood lol

                          grain filler

beeswax fills grain a bit and does harden a bit but not like the grain filler,to get butt back to shiny i have used french polish because that hardens and fills as well and polishes brill, just keep polishing
