  • Joe Davis cues

Theres so many of these cues around but little mentioned on this forum.

I've just bought an old one piece 146 champion off ebay, as I couldnt find a new maple cue that looked decent for the same money.

Will repost my verdict when I get it, in the meantime whos got one and what do we think about them?

    Cheers

I've got a maple 147 cue but its too light for me, around 16oz I think. Cue is about 58.5 inches too which is too long for my liking. Solid shaft though and plays pretty well but maple isn't for me. Its basically just a back up in case anything happens to my playing cue.

If you google when Joe Davis set the various world record breaks it will give you a rough idea of when the cues were made. If they have red writing on the badge (146 - 147 cues, they were made in the year the break was made.

Think he made the 147 in 1955 so I think the blacks were made from 1956? they were made till the early to mid 1970's I think and from what I've seen, the older the better. There's much better experts than me on the forum though.

there are several types of 146 cues - as a playering maple they are not bad cues as a collectable the ones with the writing in red tend to fetch more.

Is that right? I don't think i've seen a black plated 146 peradon cue but I've had 4-5 of the red ones. Given the break stood some 5 years, if that was the case you'd think black would out number red 4-1, unless they lost the rights to make them or something.

P.S if someone does have one I'll buy it

How much do they sell for. I just saw one last night. Maple 146 red writing. My friend wants to sell it. We from South Africa!
