  • is this a craftsman?

i've been given this cue to fix and sell because the joint has broken off in the cue.

anyway its got a craftsman badge with it that had fallen off.

it doesnt look like a craftsman to me (the dark square around the badge) and just wondered if anybody could clarify. obviously this will effect the sale price.

i might even keep the cue for myself if its a good player...

excuse the phone pics. can take pics of other bits if this will help?

Well the end joint is obviously not the normal kind that Craftsman fit, unless they have changed recently.

Could be an old cue though, I do remember them having some cues in a few years back with that black area and their badge fitted but they were probably imported from somewhere and just stuck their badge on. Could be an Adam cue as its very similar to the cues they made, thats my guess anyway.

Could be Powerglide as it looks like one and they used to use those Type Badges Square.

Could also be a repair job, where the bottom of the splice has split and replaced with an ebony piece.

well the guy i got it off paid about £80 for it from someone at the snooker club. it had the craftsman badge fitted, but it had come off now and there is superglue behind it and it doesnt seem to fit flush.

I have a craftsman cue of my own and the joint as different so i thought maybe it was an older cue?

another clue is it comes with a long and short butt extension, both of which have "made in china" stickers on them and do not seem to be wood? but these could have been purchsed after the cue?

the joint has snapped off inside the butt end and left half of it stuck inside, its in quite a mess to be honest. I'm going to use one of the joints from the extensions and try to repair it.

any thoughts on how to get the remains out from the butt as they are well stuck? might have to drill it out?

is it stuck in with glue?

you could heat the glue so it melts and it will drop out

I have only seen two types of Craftsman joints. The modern quick release joint, which you probably have on your own Craftsman and a short joint that is very similar to an early H&O or JP.I have a cue with such a joint and Dave has verified that it is the first type of joint he used ( somewhere around 1980 - 85).If the joint on your "new cue" is not any of the joints described above then I would suggest that it is not a Craftsman. The only people who could 100% verify or back up what I have stated, would be Dave or Simon at Craftsman. They do sometimes visit the forum, you could try a PM.Hope this helps.Regards Mick.

i've e-mailed them a few times in the past when they sorted my other cue out. great people to deal with but i didnt want to bug them as i know how busy they get, especially this time of year after the champs and christmas etc.

I'll pop some pics up of the joint and the damage when i get home.

but tbh its looking more and more like its not a craftsman to me.

id be very surprised if it was a craftsman.

another theory is to get bob akers to fix it

Possibly try a brass rod.Place it inside the female part of the joint with a few inches sticking out.Heat the brass rod,the flame/heat will be away from the wood and only on the inside of the joint. If it is a resin based glue this might soften it up enough to remove the joint,a close fit ( brass rod to joint inner) would be better.Alternatively,as above,a good cue doctor should be able to help.Good luck.

matty - any pics of the cue bud? would be really helpful.

hatter - i'd like to have a go myself 1st coz i'm a cheapskate but it might just end up going to him.

cheers old school, i'm gonna give it a go and see how i get on. the bit of the joint that came out of the butt was threaded so it might be a tricky job of heat and twist lol gonna heat it up and try knock a flat headed screwdriver into the remains of the joint and see if i can get enough on it to twist it out

                          updates to follow :snooker:

I have two craftsman cues and this one doesn't really look like one. To be honest, it looks more like my old Peradon Regency (cant' find any decent pics though).

i think its a chinese cue called cooper cues that craftsman rebadged and sold as one of their cheaper ranges a few years ago.
