grinding tip down

Hi guys,

Had my Craftsman Dominator since May and love it, however a bloke at the pool club said I needed to 'grind the tip down' or something...what does this mean exactly?

I'm going to re-tip it anyway in time for the student nationals but for future reference what should I be doing?
