The cue priced at £875 is a completely different cue and is not listed by the same person.

That cue (£875) was made for a pool player, which after trying it he found it was actually too long and too thick for him, so I'm building him another.

I am more than a bit surprised at the price it's listed for however, and if it's listed by him also (which I can't know for sure), a little bit disappointed too.
Sorry, misunderstood slightly. Maybe I'm bitter, and I do understand that we live in a capitalist society, but if I had a TW or a JP I would treasure it as a snooker cue, not try to make money from it.
    Maybe I'm naive or idealistic.
Oh, and that's a bad miss.

i think that's peoples intention but then they don't get on with the cue or they are on that dreaded quest for that holy grail of cues "the self potter".

I do think it sad that members try and move cues on for more than there worth or what they paid for them. Yet you can only sell a cue for over inflated prices if people are prepared to pay these prices. It's these fools who do the damage not the greedy git who's out to get as much as he can.

anything is only worth what somebody is prepared to pay for it. - if i invest £5k in cues /tips etc is it not right for me to make a profit at it? do you get paid when you go to work?

If it's your business, you obviously have to make a profit and need to cover your overheads, I can fully understand that, but there has to be a limit If say you buy a cue for £400 I don't see how a mark up of £200 can be justified.
But like you say any product is only worth what people are willing to pay. I myself would never buy a cue anywhere other than from the maker or a friend where I can try before I buy. I would rather wait a year to get a JP ultimate made to my specs than pay over the top prices or in the case of Trevor 24 weeks. But what we have on this forum is private owners who have brought a cue at a reasonable price and then when moving the cue on, jump on the bandwagon and stick a couple of hundred pounds on the price they paid.

personally i have never been able to buy a cue for £400 and sell it for £600 other than the odd antique, but it still requires somebody to agree to pay it! generally i will make between 25-60 on a cue (although i have been known to do it for no profit on the forum!) and for that i will also have cleaned it up and you get to know its not a fake! for me personally i make a living because i sell them everyday. from my point of view what kills the market is ebay because they take a huge amount in fees and then again through their own little banking system. if you sell a cue thoough ebay for £500 you will end up with £425. this makes it tricky for me because when i offer to buy a cue from somebody they want the figure the last one on ebay sold for!

please don't think that my comments are directed at you, I'm commenting on what I've seen members selling there cues for and having a fair idea of what the cue was worth when it was made, I think they are **** takers. The sad thing is that a lot of people seem to buy cues on looks alone, with no regards to the playabilty of the cue. I heard a lot of guys on this forum say I've never known a cue to pot a ball on it's own and this is true, even more so a cue with 20 different splices on it.

                    Cazmac,

Alot of people HAVE to buy cues on looks(or reputation) alone because they live in far parts of the world where they never get to see let alone try out a cue before buying. I'm in this boat. I have waited 24 weeks and more twice for a TW cue and I'm glad I did.

Yes it is sad that some people gouge on pricing, but it is a free market and buyer beware. If I were buying a used cue, I would buy from a trusted member of the Forum(like ADR) but not everyone is a forum member who has knowledge of people like Fedia and know enough to stay away from the likes of people like him.
The bitter taste of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.

Yes some members are not as fortunate as you say and I feel for these guys.
With regards to Ard I would have no problem doing business with him as he has built up a well earned rep on this forum and members have only good things to say about him.

I had an email from someone the other day asking if the £250 they'd been offered at their club was a decent price for their cue... A Joe Davis 147!! I really ought to have asked for the guy who offered the money's number!!!

I suppose that's part of the point of the forum. You know you can trust the "regulars" and you get to know about genuine snooker dealers like ADR.
Oh, and that's a bad miss.
