I been changeing my cue a lot recently and part of if ,if not all the reason has been with regards to applying side. I been playing with a 9.5 tip and was woundering weather to make my new cue order 9mm. can any one give me some advice.
Have you used a 9 mm caz , there is a big difference , I play with a 9.6-9.7 but one cue is a 9.5 , this is right on my limit and even then i have to put a 11mm tip on and keep an overhang which gives the impression that its thicker .
Give me a 9.4 or under and i,m totally lost .
Saying that some may swich quite easy , its all trial and error .
I can get far more side on the ball with my newer cue with a 9.7mm tip than i can with my old cue with 9mm tip. This is probably because i feel more confident with it.

Quite right it is down to personal preference .Some People who use a 9 mm may find it impossible to switch to a 9.5 mm
I have been playing for many years with an 8.7mm tip/ferrule,( it was originaly 9mm ).
I changed cues exactly a year ago to one with a 9.7mm ferrule and soon got used to it.
The smaller the tip the harder it is to find the centre of the ball.

Have you .......i did not know !
9mm too small mate . I tried my mates , thought the shaft would snap it was so thin .
I would stick to 9.5mm Tip m8 as there is a Hell of a Difference with 9mm.
9mm is Ideal for Pool but Not Really for Snooker as I have tried so many Cues and Found Approx 9.5mm is Ideal for Snooker.
There are Many of Players I know Playing with 9mm and Some of them are Pro's but they have played all there Life with 9mm and they are PROFESSIONAL.....Which makes a Hell of a Difference to Am Snooker Players.
It is Very Precise when using 9mm Tip and alot Harder to Play with.
It is far easier to mis-cue with a 9mm tip than a 9.5mm.I know it sounds stupid but the decrease of just that 0.5mm would be very noticeable to you.I have used 8.25 -9.75/10mm tips and my compromise is 9mm for pool and 9.5-9.75 for snooker. The smaller the tip the more accurate and precise your action has to be.
The Reason I used to Use 8.5mm/9mm on Pool is when Screwing Back or Using Side on Pool or Snooker you can get alot more into the Ball as its hitting Smaller Area of the White!
But I Definately wouldn't Reccommend using 8.5mm on Snooker!!....
i've used a 9mm tip for years and when i had a knock with my bro´s bigger tip i didn't like it not sure what size i think it was 9.5mm like already said its what you get used to

My Craftsman I'm trying to flog has a 8.5 mil tip, way too fine for somebody of my low standard, I must say though that when I do cue it right it's bloody lovely!
One day I'll make a century, I've knocked in a 51!
