9mm vs 9.5mm

The overall consensus seems to be to stick with the 9.5, i would love to try a 9mm but don't think I’ll do it this time.

The Reason I used to Use 8.5mm/9mm on Pool is when Screwing Back or Using Side on Pool or Snooker you can get alot more into the Ball as its hitting Smaller Area of the White!

But I Definately wouldn't Reccommend using 8.5mm on Snooker!!....

Yep, I agree with this. Smaller cue tip are good for generating more spin. To me, 9.5mm is the best for me. Don't know about you guys, but anything smaller then 9mm is really too small.

Once my cue arrives, the tip is going to seem massive as it's 10mil, that will be a huge change from a 8.5mil.

I recently changed from 9.6mm too 9.3mm, i know it don't sound much but it feels much better, i slightly changed a few specs on my new cue and think i found my perfect spec doing so, the slight slimmer tip i feel gives me more 'feel' i think...

Nothing wrong with a 10mm tip DWOT.

I think the amount of side often varies with the cue, but not with the size of the tip.

Yer, the tip on my old Riley is 10 mil, hope I can get on with the new cue for a bit whilst I either get some money togeter for a decent replacement either from somebody off here or from one of the excellent cue makers out there!

I have been looking for a cue for years, here's the deal, I've stopped. I got a cue from a good maker (very good) of fairly average specs and decided that I'm just going to have to get used to that cue because the constant searching led to constant uneasiness and doubt and there is NO bigger enemy than doubt.

Get a cue, enjoy it and play with it, just stop looking because contrary to popular belief, it's not the arrows, it's the indian.

I hear ya jb134. But if someone doesn't mind splashing the cash and it's a hobby, why not? I think it's been a long road for Caz but he'll get there in the end.

I think the feedback he gives helps other ppl in their search, what to look out for etc.

IOTR, I agree but sometimes from his posts I think the guys in pain, smashing cues etc etc. I've been in that pain, never broke a cue in temper though (too mean lol) but I've looked and looked and spent and spent.

Well doctor the cue I broke only cost £30 and to be honest I didn't mean to break it. I threw it down hard on the floor but almost flat I was shocked to see how easy the joint broke. I thinks a good quality cue would have been able to with stand the abuse, but I wouldn't try it.
One thing you notice about changing cues is the fact that they all play differently and it has a direct effect on your play. So if all cues feels and plays differently with regards potting and position then there has to be a perfect cue for everyone. I agree that if you get a good quality cue and stick with it you will reach a level with this cue. But never reach your full potential with that cue. The problem with searching for the perfect cue is that you my never find it. But If I do I think I will know it on the very first shot
PS, to be honest, I'm quite happy about my search for the one and I do get a buzz in ordering and receiving a new cue. So don't worry about me cause for now I'm happy to keep looking.

Do you actually go and have a play with a cue as close as you can get to what you're looking for at whichever of the top cue makers put there you're buying from? If not you could be doing this forever.....

You must have a pretty good idea what it is you're looking for by now, weight, length, tip size, look etc??????

Getting your ideal spec is one thing but getting a cue with an ideal feel is another .

Surely if you've got the spec, the feel comes with that does it not??????

And surely getting a feel for a cue comes with playing time??????

Mind, what do I know I've only ever had 2 cues in my life, one of those for over 20 years and then the Craftsman I'm trying to sell, which I love the feel of but too fine a tip...

After using the Craftsman for a few months I tried my old cue and it felt like the cheapest piece of wood you've ever lifted in your life, which to be fair it is!

Ye i think you do get used to the feel of a cue after a while but some cues you can use from the off and feel as if you have used them for years .

DWOT, there is more to it than getting the specs right. Every piece of wood is different and will play slightly differently.

Then, a lot of it has to do with the mind.
