        Which "shop" are you using?
Would not the "shop" have an idea of the woods used?

ya the shop has said they think its a ash shaft with a maple or rosewood butt section. The place ive taken it to is b and w billards.

would it be safe to use a 0000 grade wire wool on the shaft only and remove the factory laquer finish that riley have put on.

I have heard on this form that wire wool should never be used, even the finest grade, but only sandpaper, using a reasonably high grade to start going down to 3000 grade for final finish.
I have seen B&WBilliards website but have not heard anything about their cue refurbishment services.

I use 0000 grade wire wool to clen the dirt off my cue from time to time and it does it no harm in fact it leaves a lovely finish . But i only rub gently .

Pheraps one of the cuemakers can recommend what grade to use to remove varnish .

After removing the varnish i would treat it with linseed oil to protect it and give it a nice finish .

Ive spoken to rileys themselves as its a riley cue i thought they would be a good start. they had said that going over the shaft with a 0000 grade wire wool would be just fine to remove the laquer when just use a clean cloth during matches, practise and before putting it away to clean and buff up the cue

Any one have any ideas on the wood that rileys whould have used on it. Ive been told it looks like ash shaft and rosewood butt anyone have any ideas

                    thanks
