  • Very stupid question

Yes, I did a search, but probably didn't write in the correct words. I come from an American pool background and the cues are round. My snooker cue has one flat side. My question is how do you hold the cue? Is the flat side in? Or out? Underneath? On top? Or just what feels comfortable? Yes, I know I should be able to figure out myself, but would like to know if there is a "correct" way. Here in Montana there are not many snooker players.

It's not a stupid question mate. Theres no "correct" way to hold the cue with the flat in a certain position, it's just what feels comfortable to you. I, myself like to hold the cue with the flat on my palm.

I think you will find most players play with the flat facing up as they play the shot as the arrows on the cue are the same side as the flat which players like to see when they are playing.

I generally place my pinky directly on the badge on my MW Shark, because I like the arrows on that side of the shaft better, just makes things feel and look right. If you use this type of logic, then watch your tip for uneven wear if you tend to use more draw than follow, or vise versa.

i always hold the cue so that the flat part is at the bottom, but everyones different, do whatever feels right to you.

As others have said most players use the arrows as its a good guide if youre cueing straight .

I use two T W cues , one has nicer grain on the badge side so i have the flat facing up . The other has better grain on the opposite side to the badge so i play with the flat facing down .

hi big arm, you can hold the cue with the flat part facing any direction... it does not matter.

some players like to always hold it in a certain direction for consistency but it's quite unnecessary... don't let it bother your game... it's much more important that you hold the correct part of the butt and that depends on the type of shots you are playing.

have fun playing with your new Master cue... i tried a couple when visiting their shop in bangkok some months back... they generally play well and the girl behind the counter is helpful and very cute too!! tried to strike up a conversation but alas, her english is limited and she's too shy.. sigh...
