Just got back from a quick hours practice with the 3/4 cue and liked it a lot, had a couple 20 breaks and a 36!!!! I also managed to clear the colours off the spots a couple of times too (So I guess those count as 27's!)...... I have a match tomorrow night so will give it a go in that, just hope I can keep remiding myself to do all the things I was doing right tonight and put them into practice*....

Breath, focus, line up the shot with the cue, move body to cue, NOT the other way round, sight, slight pause in the backswing and away you go.....

Maybe, just maybe I can get that all elusive 40 break before this year is out yet!

    * It's ok doing this in solo practice but I need to apply it to matches too!
    One day I'll make a century, I've knocked in a 51!

I think the trick is this. Think about technique in practice, and practice it as much as you can within reason, but when it comes to a match stop thinking about technique in detail, instead have a short phrase to 'remind' yourself of some aspect i.e. 'relax and cue straight'. So, you are instead concentrating on potting, position, and tactics and letting the technique take care of itself. Let your body do what you've been training it to do without 'standing over it's shoulder' so to speak, because all you'll do is overthink it and basically get in the way of what should start to flow naturally.

Am now utterly utterly depressed, how can I go from cuing smoothly and pottings good balls and making some decent breaks to playing absolutely awfully, not being able to pot a thing and losing to one of, if not the worst player in our league... Ok he had a few flukes along the way to win it but given the chances I has it should never have come to that.. I keep telling myslef it's my first ever season of competitive snooker and I've only been playing for 8-9 months after not playing for 15 years but it really is starting to depress me to the extent I'm thinking of not playing for a few weeks and letting the rest of the lads get on with it....

Could be worse DWOT! You could be my age and not played for 36 years, then see how you get on.

Keep your chin up and get on with it, you will get better, but stop kicking yourself, just play and enjoy it and don't think too much.

                                Cue looks great Jim!

Just had 2 hours with Nigel Bond and another 2 putting into practice some of the pointers from him with the 3/4 cue you left with me, starting to get to grips with it a little bit and for a cue that only cost £18 I think it's fantastic!
