barking:
I have a Dark Horse MYX here which I bought to try as an experiment about a year ago. Total cost delivered was $135(CAN) including case and mini extension.
For the money I paid actually the cue is pretty good quality although the splices are painted on, but the butt is fairly fancy and the shaft of Canadian ash is very good and the cue hits very well.
All I had to do to it once it was delivered is put a decent tip on it as it came with a dodgy cheap tip. The joint is similar to an Omin 'air lock' joint and is very solid. Weight is 18.3oz with brass ferrule at 9.5mm.
You can have this one for $100(US) plus shipping from Canada (no case but includes mini extension) if you want it. That way at least you have had someone test the cue for you and know it will be a decent cue for the money.
I can supply a much better case for another $60(US)

yeh they are painted, but dont let your eyes decieve you. theyre just painted over wood, wierd, but true. underneath are properly handspliced woods, ive sanded about 3 of them down, and tbh they look better with the wood underneath than painted. sorta a shame nobody told the company that lol
they are proper handspliced, just darkened to look like A grade ebony. all woods used are proper wood. proper handspliced technique too. even splicings n all.

Customer of mine brought one to me to be shortened, not bad for the $ I guess but the extensions were junk, fell apart after one week. You get what you pay for, if you want quality seasoned wood properly processed that will stand the test of time and stay straight go with a reputable maker.

I've recently acquired one and all I can say is that I was pleasantly surprised by the overall quality of the cue. First thing I did was pop off the cheapy tip they send with the cue and threw out the 5 extra replacements they send as well. Put on a nice Elk and after a few sessions, the cue plays great. The included case is not the greatest, but as long as I'm going from my house to the car to the pool hall (and I DON'T carry it by the flimsy handle) I don't see any problems. The mini-butt and telescopic work well. The reason for this purchase was originally, I wanted a new case for my 2-piece 30+yr old Dufferin (which I've owned for 20yrs) and a telescopic push-on extension. I was quoted $85 for the extension and $80 for a 3-compartment case. I hopped on the internet and joined up on this forum to see what was out there in terms of used equipment. I almost purchased a used an O'Min Climax from another forum member, but after all was tallied up, cue, case, extension and SHIPPING, it worked out to $300+CDN. I saw these M.Y.X. cue packages on eBay and figured what the heck. Worst case scenario, I end up with a case and extensions and I'm still ahead of the game by $50. It came 4 days later and I've been very pleased ever since. I play 3-4 times a week 4 hours at a time. We'll see how the cue endures the test of time, but for now it plays great and that's what matters to me. I think maybe some of the splicing may be off 1 or 2mm, and so what if some of the wood is painted, it feels good to me and that's what matters to me.
My 2cents.

"The cue is 100% handmade and hand spliced, the butt is hand spliced by 5 RARE Woods: Teak, Afzelia Burl, Ebony, Maple & Tulipwood. It is made by our top cue maker who gets 30 years' experience of making cues. It is very difficult and high-cost to finish the cue for it is spliced by 5 RARE Woods. To a cue maker, it is maximal trial. The cue is made by Matthew Lee and he said that the cue is his most satisfied handcraft, and the cue is the representative work in his life. Look at the pictures, the picture can tell you how beautiful and amazing they are, item will be sent as the pictures showed!
Its RRP is 590 Pounds but now you can at favorable price !! Never make you disappointed natural texture! You will draw a lot of eye balls in snooker rooms once you are the lucky winner. I am sure no people will forget its nice looking once has ever seen it!
Main role of Afzelia Burl: Afzelia zylocarpa is known as Makamong burl in South east Asia. This is a beautiful burl that is rare on the World Market. Similar in appearance to Amboyna burl, Afzelia burl has more varied figure in burl form. This has been air dried for the last 7 years. Over the past few years, it has become increasingly difficult to get, especially in the burl form. It is with outrageously good looking.
Teak (outer yellow splice): Teak wood is commonly called as rouge wood; mainly grows in Myanmar & Thailand, with medium weight, medium density. It is not easily to be deformed, waterproof, resistant & with minimal shrinkage. It is much more durable after drying, the dimension is very stable. In European countries, teak is used to make the most luxurious yachts, the deck of the Titanic was laid with teak, the floors of century-old cathedral and ancient buildings are also made by teak . Teak is a very precious, from the growth to become useful at least cost 50 years in the natural environment, the best place of origin, only 1 to 5 trees are available. It also contains a very heavy oil, this oil can keep it in the same type, and it is also with a special flavor that can drive snakes, insects, rats and ants. More amazing is that its colour of planning surface will become Golden by photosynthesis, the colour will become more & more beautiful when ages pass.
Tulipwood (left & right hand side ones in orange): It is very expensive --- expect to pay upwards of $50 per board foot and $80 to $100 would not be unusual. This wood was a favorite in French furniture in the Empire period but because of the small size and very high cost it is generally found today only in inlays, marquetry, turnery, and other small decorative fancy goods. It polishes to a beautiful natural luster and it is very hard, heavy and strong, difficult to work with and causes severe blunting of cutting edges."
Could be good for Australian conditions with all our snakes, insects, rats and ants in the average clubMy favourite players: Walter Lindrum (AUS), Neil Robertson (AUS), Eddie Charlton (AUS), Robby Foldvari (AUS), Vinnie Calabrese (AUS), Jimmy White, Stephen Hendry, Alex Higgins, Ronnie O'Sullivan, Dominic Dale and Barry Hawkins.
I dream of a 147 (but would be happy with a 100)
