much better than the machine spliced half cues u get in shops. only worth it if u can get it under 80 pounds :P otherwise, save more n go for a custom/secondhand.

I have a Dark Horse MYX here which I bought to try as an experiment about a year ago. Total cost delivered was $135(CAN) including case and mini extension.

For the money I paid actually the cue is pretty good quality although the splices are painted on, but the butt is fairly fancy and the shaft of Canadian ash is very good and the cue hits very well.

All I had to do to it once it was delivered is put a decent tip on it as it came with a dodgy cheap tip. The joint is similar to an Omin 'air lock' joint and is very solid. Weight is 18.3oz with brass ferrule at 9.5mm.

You can have this one for $100(US) plus shipping from Canada (no case but includes mini extension) if you want it. That way at least you have had someone test the cue for you and know it will be a decent cue for the money.

I can supply a much better case for another $60(US)

painted on splices

You mean the splices where the ash joins the ebony are painted on? That's not right.

yeh they are painted, but dont let your eyes decieve you. theyre just painted over wood, wierd, but true. underneath are properly handspliced woods, ive sanded about 3 of them down, and tbh they look better with the wood underneath than painted. sorta a shame nobody told the company that lol

they are proper handspliced, just darkened to look like A grade ebony. all woods used are proper wood. proper handspliced technique too. even splicings n all.

thats right ive done exactly the same myself there not too bad a playing cue ithink its only when you start knocking regular 50+ breaks in you might outgrow the cue as such,but a cheapish cue for a starter

Customer of mine brought one to me to be shortened, not bad for the $ I guess but the extensions were junk, fell apart after one week. You get what you pay for, if you want quality seasoned wood properly processed that will stand the test of time and stay straight go with a reputable maker.

It is easy, go to Mike Wooldridges website, tell him exactly how you want the cue to look and play, and you will get as good a cue as you will ever need. I'm in the states, and I did this. I could not be more satisfied.

I've recently acquired one and all I can say is that I was pleasantly surprised by the overall quality of the cue. First thing I did was pop off the cheapy tip they send with the cue and threw out the 5 extra replacements they send as well. Put on a nice Elk and after a few sessions, the cue plays great. The included case is not the greatest, but as long as I'm going from my house to the car to the pool hall (and I DON'T carry it by the flimsy handle) I don't see any problems. The mini-butt and telescopic work well. The reason for this purchase was originally, I wanted a new case for my 2-piece 30+yr old Dufferin (which I've owned for 20yrs) and a telescopic push-on extension. I was quoted $85 for the extension and $80 for a 3-compartment case. I hopped on the internet and joined up on this forum to see what was out there in terms of used equipment. I almost purchased a used an O'Min Climax from another forum member, but after all was tallied up, cue, case, extension and SHIPPING, it worked out to $300+CDN. I saw these M.Y.X. cue packages on eBay and figured what the heck. Worst case scenario, I end up with a case and extensions and I'm still ahead of the game by $50. It came 4 days later and I've been very pleased ever since. I play 3-4 times a week 4 hours at a time. We'll see how the cue endures the test of time, but for now it plays great and that's what matters to me. I think maybe some of the splicing may be off 1 or 2mm, and so what if some of the wood is painted, it feels good to me and that's what matters to me.
