Snooker Cue repairs Leics

Hi

I have a Lewis & Wilson 3/4 snooker cue whcih I have had for around 20 years. The thread has now gone in the brass section of the butt - the extension still tightens up, so I assume it must be the thread in the butt which is the problem.

I now have the issue of whether to try and get this fixed if possible or if I can't do that or it is cost prohibitive, to look at a replacement. It is a very good cue, (although perhaps not as smooth as it once was!), costing me over £100 all that time ago so unless it costs too much I would like to look at getting it fixed.

I live just south of Leicester and am struggling to find anyone locally who might be able to carry out such repairs. Does anyone know who may be able to help or thoughts on whether it is worth compared which just buying new one?

How much is too much for repairs?

I would email the various cue makers, some of which have accounts here (like Trevor White) and ask what they would charge for a repair. You can likely pay for that, and shipping, without spending too much .. tho I don't know exactly how much it might be.

Seems a shame to have to replace a cue you like, and have become used to, when all you need is a new fitting.

Tony Glover is at Moira Furnace near Swadlincote,worth a trip.He started as an engineer,if I remember rightly so maybe he could fabricate a new joint or re-tap yours ,if that is the problem.Hope this helps.

Lewis and Wilson cues were made by Dave and Chris who currently run Mastercraft Cues in Shropshire.

Shropshire is hardly on your doorstep being in leicester, but not exactly a million miles away either.

Thanks guys, useful information. I guess I was thinking if it is likely to cost £70, £80+ I might just invest in a new one, but would prefer to keep the current one if possible.

If you like the cue it would be well worth spending the money to get it fixed IMO. The cue makers mentioned and others can do some amazing things in terms of restoration. Repairs are not really that expensive compared to the stress of getting used to a brand new cue!!

Taking into account your location Tony Glover is sound advice as you could visit his workshop let him take a look at it and know whether he can fix it or not and how much it will cost.

That way you can make your decision much easier then, Tony is also one of the best we have whether it be for repairs or making a new cue so your quite lucky to be fairly close.

Lots of other good makers that would also do a great job, but might just be easier to take it to Tony being local & cheaper than maybe posting it or making a trip to another maker.

Good luck whatever you decide & don't worry your not the first and won't be the last to have this dilemma whether to fix an existing cue or get a new one, best not to rule out anything until you've got it checked out mate.

I'll second that, just sent him the butt of my old faithfull to have a new mini butt fitted. Sent it on wednesday, got it back this morning. Fifteen quid plus postage which was a couple of quid, and a top job as well.

Tony Glover is the man my new cue from him is the business! He also did a great job on one of my old cues to, go and see him, BUT ring first to make sure he will be there. You can get his number from his website, good luck.

One mor vote for Andy Travis!

I bought a busted Peradon Atom cue form a mate plus a spare butt from a Cue Craft Falcon. Sent the bits to Andy to have the Cue Craft butt fitted to the Paradon shaft. Also had the tip size increased from 8ish to 8.75 plus I was able to lenghthen the cue from its origninal 55" to 57". I was able to have the extra length because the cue craft butt was much longer than the original Peradon one.

These are photos sent back from Andy. I havent actually had the cue back yet but expect it to arrive probably tomorrow. I can put up some more photos when it gets here if anyones interested. Based on the photos I am very very happy with it. The finnish and workmanship looks stunning and all for a suprisingly low price. I thoroughly reccomend this guy to anyone needing repairs or alteratons.

Now I just need a custom name badge to replace the Cue Craft one.
