Heres what I finished splicing today. It was an old hand spliced maple cue. Had some damage around the badge, re-spliced it with bubinga.
Finished very smooth and like new. Just have to weight it to bring the balance back a bit and its done.
The splices didnt come out very even though, got some angles slightly wrong on the flats, doesnt notice too much and learnt a fair bit, mainly that the secondary dress splices are alot harder to get even IMG_1442.jpgIMG_1453.jpgthan the main splices!

to be honest jason i think splicing is very hard getting them level, ive matched tops and middle and bottom splices then when cleaned up theyare not all level i think i need a bit more teaching on that bit or ime goin to have a fair bit of firewood as i call it,i was worried that cutting the tenon that way might have split the shaft i did on one good job the shaft was very long, but your looking good mate if you come up atall for the snooker give us a bell ile meet you

I have never done a ferruel this way, are you not able to put the shaft through the chuck?

I have a good centre steady and the cue runs true with little vibration, almost none where the tail centre is holding the cue so cutting a tenon was fine. I also have a live centre with a long nose to give me clearance and space to work.

Did you 'laminate' the ebony, maple and then cocobolo together and glue all on at the same time or did you put the ebony on, plane it down, then the maple, plane that down and then the cocobolo?
