Stu, if your in no rush then Im sure I will have a spare piece or 2 in a few weeks that you can have. You know if your just splicing a front splice on an old cue and gonna then take it off and have another go then just use any old crap, dont go along the route of a decent hardwood as its not cheap.

Cheers Jason your offer is greatly appreciated. I have bought a small ebony blank big enough to get a couple of small splices for £4 to give me something to play with.

I wasn't buying, the figure was just quoted to me.

For the budding cuemakers on the forum B and W sell turned shafts, just give them a ring :snooker:

Find this a tad hypocritical.. one moment everyone says all cues that come out of china are '''' then the next people are cueing up to buy some chinese shafts? I don't see how splices added to a chinese shaft here are any better than full cues prepaired over there, which as we all know are available for £40 inc case and extensions.

Would hate to pay £200+ for something that essentially cost £2 a shaft as an import.

I quite agree which is why im learning from scratch.
Although I would like 10 shafts to practice on as it would save me spending hours on tapering shafts only to screw up on the splices. They would purely be to practice on.
I wonder how many of the main cue-makers actually taper there own shafts?? Mmm that would be interesting...

                            actual handmade cues

i know dave coutts does, trev does, flame does, the first 8 i made were, moved on to already shaped ones but still got some real blanks, ide say most of the others still do,i think its when you go more mass produced you start buying already shaped because you cant keep up with the volume you need

Made some great progress today, got down to the splices and not too bad even if i do say so myself.
Updated blog, more detailed pics of splices on there.
