  • Need help from Cue Makers

I am wanting to fit a badge into a friends cue, the original has been lost and so a blank of ash has been placed into the recess. How do the cue makers take this out? and with what kind of tooling? If images can be provided then I'd be very grateful.

Jelli, if it was a metal badge etc, you'd drill 2 holes, and remove it with pin nose pliers after heating the glue up. If you had a soldering iron that would work well I reckon.

No, its a ash plug that was put in place of the original badge.

Yeah I read that much. I figured you could work something out from that.
        Good luck.

Surely if its an ash badge you could use one of those special shaped wood drill bits and carefully drill it out, then clean up hole and stick in new badge ??

how would it normally be done to cut a recess into the chamfer of the butt? is there a specific method?
Mainly as I may need to make it slightly larger?

i use a router bit attached to a pillar drill and have a custom made wooden block with a rubber grip in it to hold the cue.

it would be a pain but thats not the issue, its a trial end error thing you need a ste up which suits you.

                      drilling

you can go on ebay under drill bits and find what you need then go to a store like maybe b&q and find what you want or even buy it of ebay, all it is is a drill they use for putting hinges on cupboard doors as such it drills a flat bottomed hole with a slight dimple in middle hope this helps

Its a Forstner drill bit your after.
Your not going to want to do this with a hand-drill though. Eeek!

Easiest and cheapest way, take it to your local small wood supplier and ask them to do it for you. Will charge you peanuts. If they arnt set up to do it then they will have the name of someone local who will.
