  • My First Walter Lindrum 4,137

I have just picked up my first Walter Lindrum 4,137 Cue. I say first because I am sure I will pick up a few over the years.

This is such a classically beautiful cue that has clearly been used and enjoyed but cared for enough to keep it in good condition. The butt and badge are in very good condition with just the shaft having picked up a lot of dirt over the years that has bedded in to the sanded shaft. I am off to start giving it some TLC.

Hit a few balls with it yesterday and it has a very classic thud to it. It reminded me of the sound of the snooker halls and clubs when I first started playing.

Hi Stupree, I have just won one of these off the bay this evening, just fancied something a bit different. What did you do to clean you one up?

To be honest this one wasn't in bad shape at all, there were a few rings on the shaft from the metal tube case it was stored in for a number of years. All it needed was a gentle rubbing down with some fine wire wool then I applied oil (I like Colron Antique Oil but Raw Linseed works well) and left to soak in overnight, wire wool again then oiled again left for about three hours or so. Then I use a cloth (doesn't have to be nice, old towel or old t-shirt) to remove excess oil then using another clean cloth I begin to buff until it feels smooth. Finally I use a nice clean Microfibre cloth to bring it to a nice smooth and shiny finish.

The Fibre Ferrule I just very carefully rubbed with wire wool trying hard not to leave any marks.

Good luck mate I hope it comes out well.

Thanks for this I will give it a go, you never really know what the cue is going to be like before you get it, the photos were okay so fingers crossed, I will let you know how I get on. Thanks again for the advice.

I didn't even see pictures of this one because it was on a classified ad, at least I could have walked away if it was in bad nick. No problems buddy

                Andy.

If u won the maple one which just solf then it looks pretty good condition from the photos.

Like stuart has said, wire wool will clean it up and then oil it over. If u fancy ur skills you can refinish a cue going through the different grades of sandpaper.

if it is that maple one u should be able to get it clean, smooth and feeling good.

If in doubt. Why not take it to local cue maker for a proper professional refinish.

Thanks Jaffa, yes its the one thats just sold, in maple. I fancy giving it a go but I think I will stick with wire wool, I am not sure I am brave enough to try sand paper.

                      Hi Stupree

i've been playing with one of these cues for around 15 years now & absolutely love it.
i bought mine from laurie annandale (cue doc & former referee). I had him change the fibre ferrule to a brass one & also had the cue converted to a 3/4 joint for easier transportation. My cue's in great condition & stamped with 17oz although it feels slightly heavier.
I've experimented with a couple more expensive cues over the years but have always went back to this.
good luck with the cue & i hope you get the same enjoyment out of your's as i have over the years

Thank you very much mate. I was tempted to have it altered but I really just want this to stay in it's original state. I love the design so much that I have thought about having a replica made.

Thanks buddy, I am really happy with it. Any tidier than this and you may have to question whether it is actually original

Just thought I would give a quick update on the one I won on the bay.

It arrived on Tuesday in nice condition but with the wood very dry.

I have taken Stupree and Jaffa's advice and have given it a very light rub down with some wire wool and for the last couple of days i have given it a wipe down with some linseed oil (it was very dry when I received it and the linseed oil has soaked in very quickly).

The cue is in great condition and I am delighted with it, thanks for the advice chaps its been a great help.
