Others think there is a difference, maple is a denser wood.
I would totally recommend maple for feel, look, smoothness and playability.
Are you a pool or snooker player?

In the last club I was a member of, being called a 'pool' player or 'pigeon' was a derogatory remark! Anyway, I only play snooker.
My first ever (ash) cue looked good but was extremely 'dead' and lifeless. When I tried a pal's ancient hand spliced ash/ebony Powerglide I was extremely impressed and amazed to learn how the best matured wood had more 'power' and 'spring' in it. Good wood was extremely rare even back then 30 years ago.
I was wondering if Maple wood had more power and feel to it in general. I had no expectations, but my home-made broom handle cue is actually quite responsive! I wonder what broom handle wood is?
