  • Dents in the cue shaft problem

So I have a bad habit of using my cue to sweep balls that are out of reach a lot of the times and I now find that the first 15" of my cue is ridden with small little dents because of the impact with the balls.

Is there anything I can do to smooth out the dents? I use Maple btw if it makes a difference

If you do a search on this forum you will find many postings for methods of getting dents out of shafts.
I tried the damp cloth with hot iron on my old cue (dented, like you, collecting & stopping fast rolling balls - obviosuly this was years ago before I knew better )
I only did this twice and I think I can see and feel an improvement but note afterwards you will have to smooth down the area with very fine sandpaper (I use 3000 grit) and then apply raw linseed oil as the treatment seemed to make a dry patch on the shaft. Obviously I say oil because my cue is oiled, instead of waxed.
My shaft is maple as well but I am sure there is no difference if it was ash or pearwood.
My final thoughts would be, if in doubt - don't.
Maybe seek a cue-maker or doctor who could help you?
"Pooljunkie" on this forum is a cue-maker in Canada who help or know someone near you.
    All the best
